Just join the flying roof club.... Damn,,! Any advice or know if insurance covers it? It was the body top! ****!
Your second post and the top is already gone Sure insurance will cover it but don't you have a deductible? I think a new top is roughly a grand. If you look on the for sale forum, you might find one there, but you may need to do a search for one. You could also post a WTB a removable roof, I would try and purchase a glass one so you don't have to worry about paint.
BTW- it would help if you fill out your profile, someone close to you may have a roof, but wouldn't know where your live.
I suggest contacting a dealer immediately. Have them determine whether or not your car was included in a recall for the painted roof; if it is, find out if the roof was in fact replaced under the recall. Get GM involved - it's possible that they'll replace the roof without cost to you.

We can give you better advice if we know what model year car you have, especially for a situation like this.
What usually flies off?? The painted skin on the roof or the entire roof assembly latches and all.. Lastly, what has happened in the past with traffic behind you? Holy crow, if I saw one of those coming at me on the freeway it would probably make people swerve/get into an accident..

If you forget to latch the latches, the whole top goes (user error... Not likely GM will do anything about it). It the top delaminates, the frame stays in place, and the top panel separates. Othis woipuld generally be covered by GM.
BTW - if you need to buy a replacement, be careful of which one you buy. If it's one of the older (delaminating) tops, GM will not support the recall unless your car was part of the recall. Lots of the tops on eBay right now are pre-recall. So if you have a late 2007 or later Vette, but buy a top that delaminates, GM probably won't pay for any repair or replacement. If possible, check under the liner... New tops were whit, old tops were black (I think).

I too joined this club right infront of the NCM on the 15th Anniversary celebration, I forgot to latch the top and the damn thing flew off and laned paint side up on 65 S right in the middle of the freeway, fortunately everyone saw it and some even straddle'd the panel. I got it back with some fracturing towards the back of the panel and was able to latch it in place until I got home to Panama City, Fl. I was able to find a replacement off a wrecked C5 at a junk yard, and had it painted to match the spiral gray color. Total cost $300.00
I don't get how you'd forget to latch it. It's almost like forgetting to put it in park when you stop the car. When I put mine back on I actually pull it down into place by the latches and then fold them in then click the back one down. I just couldn't see myself forgetting that part.
Cheer-up! At least you didn't decapitate the guy on the motorcycle behind you.
I've heard of people forgetting to latch the roof panel but it seems to me the sun visors and the roof latches have to be in their down position when you put the roof panel back on. How do you forget to secure the roof panel when the visors and latches are sticking down right in front of your face? That said we all make mistakes...I parked alongside a concrete curbed peninsula (jutting into a parking lot) once. I got back in the car, drove forward and made a sharp right turn. The problem was I hadn't cleared the concrete curb. I heard the crunch as the edge of my rocker panel was grinding over the curb. Yes, it dinged the car.
I was running at Phoenix International Raceway one day....a guy blasting down the main straight forget to put the pins in to secure his hood. Doing about 130 his hood blew off and went about 100 feet in the air. Fortunately, it landed in the empty seats in the stands. **** happens to all of us.
