I think its clear the vette was moving at speed on impact. (35? 50? 100?)
I think its clear that the Pontiac turned in front of the vette.
I think its also clear that whatever the speed (or relative intoxication level of any participants) 100 is not consistent with the damage levels and is only serving inflammatory duties in its context.
The chassis separation on the Bonneville has more to do with the point of impact on the Pontiac's body than anything else. The impact removed the rear truck from the unit body, likely using the rear suspension as a lever.
Aside from these observable things, we don't know really anything. the article is clearly slanted and just a little baited - and we are rising to the bait. It will be interesting to see what the final outcome of this is - and whether it differs a little or a lot from the statements in the article.
My heart goes out to all involved. Its just awful.
That picture defines why I don't like verts for anything other than cruisin. You go beyond that, you better have a cage. Those Apillars don't hold up for nothing as far as keeping your head from getting squashed.
