Default Fle-bay wheels?

After being a member of the forum for only a short time I can tell there are many types of corvette owners. Those who have a bottomless wallet and spare no expense with their car.... and others who saved for their car and bargain shop for certain items. I am the second Being a military guy I dont have the cash to drop thousands on wheels, so I am looking for a good deal. I found these on ebay, and while they seem cheap I am sure there might be something I am missing that the salt-dog forum members might pick up on? for nearly 500 bones im not sure if they would really be worth it anyways... I LOVE this style and can easily paint them black ( no not rattle can ). Im just looking for a set of wheels simliar to these at a good price range.....

DESCRIPTION: 2-18X8.5 +56 & 2-19X10 +79 C6 ZR1 NEW CORVETTE REPRODUCTION STYLE WHEELS. WHEELS HAVE NO FINISH ON THEM YET. THEY ARE READY FOR PAINTING, CHROME PLATING, BLACK CHROME OR POLISHING. THEY ARE NEW WHEELS BUILT BY FACTORY REPRODUCTIONS. PLAIN CHROME CAPS ARE INCLUDED

Being that's where a lot of vendors here get their OEM style wheels, that's a very good deal. Especially if you're going to paint them black anyway.

Edit:Still on my first cup of coffee. Check first to see how much it's going to cost to have them painted. I believe vendors here now sell these wheels in black for ~ $750.00.

I am on my second set of Factory Reproduction wheels. They are a nice wheel, but not the best by any means. Just fine for daily driving but not good for the track.

Check on pricing to have them powder coated. Then bargin with Discount Tire for special order and compare prices.

I got my Z06 FR Spiders in black for $800 MOUNTED/BALANCED/ROAD HAZARD out the door.

I'd say that aftermarket wheels account for about 30% of the wheels on this forum, but about 90% of the wheel problems. There are good aftermarket wheels, but you need to do a lot of homework before purchasing.

When it comes to buying used, my experience is that some strange force causes otherwise-honest people to become pathalogical liars when describing the used wheels they want to sell. After shipping several sets of wheels back to the seller, I've gotten to the point where i will only buy used wheels if i can inspect in person before purchase. I've had good luck buying various used factory wheels on Craigslist.

Think twice, buy once, enjoy your car!

If you want a set of factory repros I would recommend OE wheels distributers in sarasota Florida. They are also an eBay member with thousands of happy customers including myself. I bought two sets of chrome wheels from them. The first lasted me just under 4 years until I hit a massive pothole. The second set were over a year old when I sold the car and in perfect condition. For my c6 I went with vossen vvs087's but that required deeper pockets.

Default seems odd to me - the unfinished part

I have never seen any New wheels being sold unfinished. That seems odd. You have to wonder if they had a finish on them that was not right and was stripped off.

Unfortunately that old saying "If it sounds too good to be true it probably is" would prevent me from buying those wheels. I would call a forum vender like bob at House Of Wheels and get a price from him. He is getting $799 for that style in chrome so black would probably be less. I'd pass on the ones from that auction site.

There are many things I will buy sight unseen, but wheels are not among them. Too many potential issues. I'd pass.

Those are some inexpensive wheels. I agree with the above post, I have never seen or heard of anyone offering an unfinished wheel. Seems a little strange. I think I would contact Bob@House of Wheels. I bought the same type of repros from him in black and they are flawless. Call Bob and at least see the price difference. Maybe a little extra money now will save you a boat load later.

I haven't seen unfinished wheels either from that mfr. altho he'd like to sell you a set of his wheels, I'd ask bob at house of wheels what he thinks of these. also, maybe he can get you a set unfinished; I don't know. finally, for another car I bought a set from OE Wheels of Sarasota and had no issues. I know of dozens of others who have, too. there was an issue a few years back on C6; they joined as members and solved the problem.

I am very much like you, and will search for ever to find the right deal for a part.

Take a look at discount tire direct and their ACE wheels for the C6. I got a set of wheels, tires, and tpms mounted and shipped to my door for under 2k. I also went with Ace because the rims were a size upgrade from stock allowing for wider tires.... If that is of interest..

They are not the lightest, but do accommodate big brake kits if that is ever a consideration...

Just my .02

I didn't see anywhere in the add where they say "Four Wheels". None of the pics show 4.

Assuming there are 4, How much to prep and paint them?

Thanks Gents, I was a bit skeptical myself. Now that I finally have a car thats worth some $$$ I firmly believe you get what you pay for. In the end I would rather fork out a few hundred extra and get a quality product then chance-it with a iffy set of wheels. Ill see what I can do about contacting this Bob fellow. Does he have a email or website?

I would pass on them, It will cost you 300 to 400 to have them painted black. I just paid 400 to have mine done right. Plus, you will have to buy new center cars, those only come in chrome.

I like brooklynC5 have used OEwheelsLLC they have a website too. I got 4 wheels and 4Firestone Firehawk Wide Ovals out the door mounted balanced filled with nitrogen out the door for 1300. The tires alone were almost that much. and I never had a problem with the rims for over a year of driving before I traded the car in. They shined up nice the paint didn't fade.

If you look at his "feedback", which is 100%, a very high majority of the sales are for wheel hub decals.
