My uncle wrecked his z06 back in the days, street racing in competition mode and he said somethings about loosing control of the car/ brakes didn't work...
This sounds like the car may have gone into "Ice" mode. Since none of the TC levels disable ABS, this can happen no matter what TC level you've selected. I had this happen once when I was auto-xing and it's scary! I wish I understood the reasoning for ice mode during ABS intervention, but the only way to reacquire braking force is to release the pedal and reapply the brakes.
Ain't no fun with the nannies on. The front brake actuates too early on corner entry and there is no rear wheel steering allowed.
I immediately use competitive steering as I enter my car as a matter of course.
The last thing I want is to have my "nannie" steal power from me when I need it most.
Traction Control System (TCS):
This limits rear wheel spin by reducing engine power and applying the rear brakes when wheelspin is detected.
Active Handling (AH):
Helps maintain directional control by selectively applying any one of the 4 brakes when a skid is detected.

There are 4 separate modes:
1. Traction Control - On Active Handling - On (Engages when the car is started)
This is the default mode.
This is recommended for normal driving.
2. Traction Control - Off Active Handling - On (Engage with 1 push of the button)
Turning off TCS allows the rear wheels to spin, but alows the Active Handling to fully assist in skid contol.
This is recommended for drag racing.
3. Traction Control - Off Active Handling - Reduced (Engage with 2 pushes of the button)
This is the Competitive Driving Mode which allows the rear wheels to spin, while reducing some of the input that Active Handling has to assist in skid control.
This is recommended for road racing.
4. Traction Control - Off Active Handling - Off (Engage by holding button for 5 sec.)
This may be used when the driver does not want any on-board sensor input that may effect power reduction or brake application. No rear wheel spin or vehicle skid corrections are automatically applied.
Note: The Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) is always on and is unaffected by the various Traction Control or Active Handling selections that may be made above.

I think this is correct except for mode 4. Not all the nannies are off. If I remember wheel hop will cut power. Thus saving the drive line from damage. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Yes Sir...always amazes me that many here think they drive better than the computer AH/TC etc.....For you/those that doubt this check out youtube....For those who say they have never had a problem on the road.....probably have caused a few....
I did the HPDE at VIR in my C5 back a few years. The man beside me in the pits was a really nice guy, but did not like the computer. I never ever turned mine off. He turned his off and on the second day he blew an engine on our last time on the track. It was 95 degrees that day. I could not find him to find out exactly what occurred. It convinced me to leave the computer on. I keep it on in my C6.
For everyday driving I don't bother touching the system. I don't drag race the vette (05 has weak diff). I tried competitive mode in road courses and found it a bit obtrusive to my driving style. I learned road courses on a 0 nanny Camaro with no TCS and ABS where "a low traction light" is all the warning you get. It has significantly more hp than my vette so I had a lot of practice (11 years) before messing with my vette.
I think the button is in an awkward spot. I accidentally bumped it the other day, and the DIC said "Competitive Driving Mode." I laughed and thanked the car for the thought, but we were in bumper-to-bumper traffic.
First let me say I drive the Tail of the Dragon regularly so I'm familiar with the road. I drive it aggressively, but with respect as I've seen the consequences. Several years back, I picked up my current 07 Vette (previously owned) and took it out for its inaugural run. I left all settings untouched as I was still getting familiar with the car.
When I got to Deals Gap, my brakes were super hot and the burning brake smell was very pronounced. I was concerned I might have a problem with my 'new' car's brakes.
I asked an acquaintance who used to be one of our local Chevy dealers master Vette mechanics what might be wrong. He said the brakes looked fine and said the nanny was probably applying brakes and suggested I try it in 'competitive' mode'.
Well I tried it the next time out and voila, no brake overheating whatsoever.
So, I normally drive in stock mode, but will switch to competitive mode in the twisties or on the track.
100% correct AH and TC WILL shut er DOWN at the worst time when you are asking for the power... The 5 Second "Button" is for drivers only.... Beware... Loving my 17 ZO6

Like Clint Eastwood says, a mans gotta know his limitations.....if your new to Corvettes, you need to learn how to drive it before you go to playing with the button. Like you see on Utube, Corvettes with the inexperienced driver, like ditches and trees. Knowing when and how much acceleration to use is something you have to learn. Then play with the button in controlled circumstances till you get the feel.
Does anyone know what happened to the video on "launch control" for the M6 trans cars?
I keep mine on all the time but I could definitely remember a time when it scared me just a bit. It was raining and I was about to do a uturn. I put it in first and started making my turn when the rear tires spun just a little as the car was pretty much in full lock and the traction control or whatever took over and stopped me pretty much dead in my tracks with cars coming up behind me. It was interesting to say the least, now I take uturns as slow as can be with a large gap between cars coming in the opposing direction.
