you guys probably wash your towels better than I wash my underwear!!!
I last months and months wiht ever washing my towel.. I use it till its black then it becomes my new wheel cleanning rag, when its to dirty for that i end up cutting up in smaller pieces and use it as a dirt rag for my engine compartment before it goes in the trsh..
Like some others, my wife does not allow me to touch the washer or dryer and I have go to a laundromat to wash and dry my microfiber towels. Also have the master blaster so use of the towels is limited. I have wound up with 60or so towels so I can go a while with out having to make the trip to the laundromat. Use liquid tide and a dash of dawn.
First, don't wash with any other material, like cotton. MF towels will pick up lint.
I use DP Microfiber Cleaner (Detailers Pride). Also, add about a 1/4 cup of vinegar to the rinse cycle. Helps cut any residue still on towels. I also do a second rinse. And, as mentioned dry on low or no heat.
Dedicated wash with "Micro-Restore" sold by AutoGeek. Use dryer ***** in the dryer to keep them fluffy. Been doing this for years. The MF towels stay like new
In addition, never, never wash the MF with non microfiber items. As previously stated, never wash them in detergent or add fabric softener.
Rinse two times using a cup of vinegar in the final rinse. When drying you may dry on low heat with dryer ***** or hang up to air dry where they will not be contaminated by dust or dirt blowing around.
Micro-fiber is a delicate material and must be treated properly. If you have already trashed them just recycle them to general cleaning and contact Autogeek for replacements. They sometimes have BOGO promotions.
I been selling MF towels for the last 6 years,, and have discovered quite a bit of information about what is good and what is bad.
There are no standards like cotton towels have(100% cotton made in the USA WILL BE 100% Cotton)
I could go into a whole page dissertation on MF towels.
Always use a liquid detergent - unscented. The fru-fru smelly detergents contain oil that clog the fiber. Doesn't have to be a specialty detergent, but if you are more comfortable with it, no problem.
However I have seen only one person mention rinsing them with vinegar in the rinse cycle.
The vinegar is a natural water softener and releases mineral content that builds up in the towels. The wash/dry cycle with non-softened water will cause the minerals in the water to attach themselves to the nap on the dry cycle.
Because microfiber is so fine it has a tendency to hold more material than the looser weaves like cotton.
It is not anything you will actually see, but over time enough will build up to cause swirls in your paint and not absorb as much water.
My water here in San Jose is so hard I have to put vinegar in the rinse cycle every other wash. Otherwise I start getting more swirls than I would normally get....
Do NOT use fabric Softener, or any detergent that uses Fabric Softener. Fabric softener contains oils that make the fabric feel soft. That clogs the nap of the towel reducing its ability to absorb water. Microfibers being so fine absorb more softener than cotton towels. Also, if a large amount of liquid softener is used that oil will transfer to the paint and attract dust.
I have washed all my MF towels twice a week for the last three years and some of my towels are six years old and still look and feel new.
I own a detail shop.
If you use Woolite be very, very careful of the type you use, most Woolite detergents contain a fabric softener and that will leave some residue behind and clog the fibers.
Does anyone know the secret of how to keep microbibre towells from stiffining up after a couple washes.I seem to get only a few usus from each one for taking the wax off the car and then they stiffen up and get rough feeling so i am afraid of using them to avoid scratching the vette during wax off...Any ideas or am i just going to have to keep buying new ones every few waxes.i have quite a pile now i don't dare use.Tanks-a-bunch..
1. Keep MF towels seperate from all other towels and laundry
2. Consider using a dedicate MF cleaner like MicroRestore
3. Place 1/2 cup white vinegar in rinse to soften (optional)
4. Never use fabric softner
5. Store outside of dust/dirt in sealed bags or canister as possible
Scott, I don't wash mine, when they're dirty from the car, I use them on my wheels, then trash them. So what's a good towel to use, that's not too expensive, since I don't keep them? Thanks.

This is what I do. The yellow type MF from Costco are pretty cheap, maybe $.25 each?

I also use Autogeeks microfiber towels, I dry to a mild damp then air dry, comes out like new.
I use 20-80 blend towels. When dirty I wash with Tide Liquid in cold water by themselves and dry on delicate setting. They are fine, as a matter of fact, they are washing now.
