I grew up a bit north of NYC--spent quite a lot of time there (family, etc). I remember the WTC towers being
built from like '68 --'71. They were monstrous...one about six months ahead of the other. It was like a race
for the sky...
I actually visited one of the towers once--went to the restaurant up top "Windows On the World."
Fantastic panoramic views of NY & NJ...nothing like it anywhere else.
so sad...we really let out guard down.

I agree with you, bobafett...we (our society) suffer from a lack of leadership posessing true vision and inspiration...
there's still trouble ahead, I suspect.

Great pictures. Was raised in NY all through college. It's nice that the hole has been filled, and the healing continues.

I’m in the Port Newark area on business. As I was exiting off the turnpike yesterday morning near the airport at 5:30 in the morning I could see the Twin Tower lights. What a beautiful sight that was.
God Bless America.

The enemies of this Country will never understand. You cant beat the will and strength of New Yorkers and the American people.
New York took a hell of a shot that day but got back up, stronger and more determined than before. America shall prevail. God Bless the USA!

Lets not get the message mixed up. NYC is a great city, the greatest I've ever lived/worked in atleast. But what happened on 9/11 should never be the cause for individuals to point fingers at our leadership. No matter what party you believe in, Im sure neither side would have "let" something like this occur. And both sides would do everything in their power to make sure it will never happen again. The only beauty to come from the tragedy, was that on 9/11 we were all Americans. Not Republicans or Democrats.
I was working in the DC area when the attacks occured. And while DC/Pentagon experienced its horrors. The Pentagon has been repaired and thus still stands, the tower are gone and will never return. I've seen the towers many times with own eyes. Driving up to NYC from the south.. its the first sign of NYC. While those memorial lights do exactly what they intended (ensure we will always have a memory of what happened).. they still will never replace what was taken. It remains a site with alot of heartbreak and alot of painful memories.
I hope that the Ground Zero memorial and the new Freedom Tower help to ease that pain and heal our hearts.. as America continues to prosper and defend herself from the enemies & cowards responsible for those senseless acts of terror.

A day that is indelibly etched in my mind.
As the sergeant of the Motorcycle Platoon of the Nassau County PD my men and I were assigned to escort the emergency equipment into the city. It was eerie to see the rush of vehicles out of the city as we were riding towards it. Even worse was the stink of the smoke the closer we got to the scene. The photograph is of the funeral escort a few days later for the top chief of the NYFD who died in the towers. I'm the lead mcy. on the right the Mayor is to the right of the flags.

I agree with the above statement. However in regards to our future we really need to start choosing our leaders more carefully.
