I am new to the forum and this is my first post. Forgive me if this is a bit clumsy. I joined the forum because I am beginning to see the first signs of age on my 2006 convertible I purchased five years ago. I hope I can help others with some of my experiences and gain more knowledge on the maintenance and care of my Vette from more seasoned owners.
I have recently noticed the tension cable on the drivers side of the convertible top is separated from the top. The passenger side is still in tack but on the driver side the bottom layer of fabric seems to have disintegrated at the stitching at the outside of the top that apparently holds the tension cable in place. Does anybody know a fix for this short of a new top?
Sorry I don't but Welcome to the Forum, hopefull someone will come with some useful info on how to do this repair. There are a lot of smart guys here and also a few Smart A** guys so hang in there you will get some good ideas.
Welcome. I suggest you contact a quality automotive upholstery shop. Chances are they can repair the damaged part of the fabric. I assume the repair would not be visible (or not visible to the extent it would detract from the appearance of the car). Year's ago at the company where I worked, we built a 'Cowboy' Cadillac for fun. We had an upholstery shop custom fabricate a convertible top for an old 4-door Caddy. I'm not so sure anyone had made a convertible top for a 4-door Caddy before. The framework was a real challenge but the upholstery shop did a great job on the top itself....on the material. Good luck.
