Thought you might want to see what a terrific job the tire shop did when they installed my new tires on Saturday!
Meeting with adjuster tomorrow. Already did a little homework. Talked to two body shops.....said they did not want to do it. Only the Chevrolet Dealer said they would (estimate over $5000). All said that the rocker would need to be replaced as well as the quarter panel and wheel housing. Will take a minimum of two weeks with about half the body panels being taken off. They said they will have to blend in the paint (fender door, rocker, quarter panel, trunk lid, and rear bumper).
In addition, the tire company installed four tires but put the wrong Michelin tires on the front.....(non-run flat when they were supposed to be run flat), so that has to be dealt with as well.
They admit fault for everything and I am working through their insurance company, but what Idiots!
Why does it scare you ? It wasn't the dealer that did the damage.
I know that, it will be my first time going to ANY shop, just threw in the Chevy dealer as I have read on here about a couple of "incompetent" techs, most notably at the stealership
Major tire installer.....what could they say. It was their fault, they apologized but it really doesn't matter to them. Five, ten, fifteen, etc. thousand dollars is nothing to them.
Biggest decision for me is where I want it fixed. Would prefer a place out of town that specializes in corvette body repair and "convincing the adjuster to agree to it.
As I said in my other post you should get a good repair from the dealer. I have used the local dealers for several body repairs and they all came out great. My oldest son spun out my Camaro convertible a number of years ago and took out almost all the body panels. The dealer replaced the panels and did a great job of painting the car.
I just took mine in for a new fender because a construction worker backed into it. The shop doing the work is a chevy dealership that sells corvettes and the body shop has been open 27 years. Should I call my service rep and remind them to use pucks, or am I way too paranoid?
I don't know that I could be responsible for my actions if that happened to my car. That is why I chose to remove the tires/wheels and take them to have the new tires installed. I did not want to give anyone the chance to damage anything. I hope your car gets repaired to your satisfaction.

1. Many Chevy stores have Corvette certified techs.
2. Ask service mgr who is their best Vette tech.
3. Request that he work on it.
4. Everyone lives happily ever after.
(For the past 40 years, I have always selected a specific tech to work on my cars. I am surprised others here do not do the same.)
I'd be surprised if the Dealer thinks they're going to replace that rocker panel once they see what that really entails, but let us know if they do. Its glued to the frame, repair is the most common and least expensive fix.

Bingo. That's what i've been doing. It limits their ability for damage to the wheels only.

My pucks are always "in". Don't call and remind them if you don't care if they damage your car. It has nothing to do with "paranoid" at all. If they tell you that you're paranoid, find another dealer..quickly.

Insurance companies cannot tell you who will fix your car, it's entirely up to you. They try to tell you to bring it to their "authorized shop" or where "our adjuster is today". Don't do it, go to the shop of your choice and let THEM deal with the insurance company.
This pertains to NY, don't know about California.

I can't imagine you'll have a tough time convincing any adjuster where you want to have it repaired.
