I'm buying a 2010 Grand Sport with only 1200 miles, originally delivered new back in June 2010. The battery was dead when I went to the private dealer, and he had to jump start it. Guess it's the economy, but they hadn't started it in awhile. Replace it, or will it come back to life? I've heard that manufactures install cheaper batteries. If I replace, what would you recommend?
Any warranty? See if your dealer will give you a new Delco.
My '09 needed a battery not long after i got it and dealer gave me a new one, no cost.
These cars will drain Any battery dead if they sit long enough. When that happens the battery never fully recovers. That's why many people use a battery tender if the car has to sit for a couple weeks or more.

I only use Delco. Good luck.

Bought my GS in April of 2010. Less than a year later, dead battery. Dealer replaced with no arguments. Told me quite common. They are used to it. Now have a battery tender.
fr. new, batt. went dead after about 20 days. if it's only once or twice, may be ok to just charge it and then use a battery "maintainer" (many brands out there from $10-$90). mine went dead once, bought a maintainer, use it summer and winter.

Personally, I would not trust a battery that has been completely drained, too many unknowns, especially with the normal drain on our systems. There are a lot of battery fans out there of different brands, but I have found that the stock AC Delco, if used with a battery tender, lasts just as long as anything out there. I changed my original C5 Delco (with religious use of a battery tender) at 7 years out of caution only, the battery was as strong as ever.
As already mentioned a few times, once a battery's been drained all the way down, it's usually a goner, and needs to be replaced. For a car with less than 36mo/36k mi, GM dealer should replace it under warranty. Not really sure where you heard a factory battery's any cheaper, as would be lots of dead battery warranty claims. Some guys claim having a new Delco pro battery in their cars new from the dealer. Surely, the factory battery went dead when the car was sitting on the lot for awhile, and played it smart replacing it. All the pro means, is one from a professional shop, and not the original or from a retailer.

It's a real crap shoot as to how long an OEM Delco will last in a new car. I have had both good and bad experiences with the originally installed Delcos. My garage queen 07 vert is 4-1/2 years old and the Delco is as strong as ever with no battery tender. Any wet acid battery drained badly is likely a goner though or will be soon afterward. New cars sitting for months unsold on dealer lots will likely have battery issues.
Get a new battery ASAP. It's cheap insurance. Bringing a dead battery back to life and depending on it with all the electronics in our cars is asking for trouble down the road. IMO
The conventional wisdom is that most batteries will be damaged or ruined by a full discharge.
But our 2009 sat on the dealer's lot for 9 months before we bought it, moved occasionally but virtually guaranteed the battery went dead more than once.
Car is now over 3 years/37k miles since production, battery doing just fine.
It's always a crap shoot, even if you get a new one. But the new one loads the dice in your favor.
Go with a battery from WalMart. If, in the future, it needs replacement under warranty, there is a WalMart just around the bend, not so with a ACDelco dealer.
If your GS has the rear mounted battery make sure you get a battery with the vent hose. WalMart has one that fits and has the vent hose. Same battery size used on all GS's.
