I seemed to have misplaced my Florida Title for my Vette.
Should I just order another title from the state of Florida, or will that show up on the Carfax as a title problem or a reason for concern for potential buyers?
Should I just wait a few years for my original title to show up in the house somewhere? It's gotta be here somewhere.

YES......(Order title) NO.......(it makes no difference))

We had a house fire in '98 that destroyed everything including our titles and had them replaced and ended up selling or trading in those vehicles without issues.
Go to your DMV and explain your situation, you should be fine.
From: Currently somewhere in IL,IN,KY,TN,MO,AR,MS,AL, or FL
No problem.
More important question - how do you misplace a title? If you have a couple of hundred dollars and some space you get a small safe and put the important papers there. If you have a problem with that you get a bank deposit box for the price of dinner once a year.

Why would ordering a duplicate/replacement title affect the value of the car? People lose original documents (and replace them) all the time.

Original vehicle titles, deeds, mortgage or loan documents, life insurance policies, trust documents, partnership/corporate documents, birth certificates, wedding license, etc. should always be kept in a bank safe deposit box. Make photocopies for home reference.
I work at a tag office in Florida. You have two options. You can come in and apply for a new title and we will send you one in the mail. Takes about a week.
Or we can print you a new one on the spot for an extra $25. Just ask for the "Fast Title" Service.
Or, you can just stop worrying about losing your title and not even apply for one. It's in the FRVIS database and we can print one out whenever you need. A lot of people don't realize it but there is no reason to have the title "in-hand" in Florida unless you are trying to sell it. Let someone else have the hassle of keeping up with it.
Not all AAA offices have title service. Same with the DMV (they're into drivers licenses). Your best bet in Florida is a Tax Collector office.
I just saw that you are from Tampa. Come in to our downtown office tomorrow morning and I will handle it personally. Just bring in your driver license and registration (if you have it). Whole thing will take about 10 minutes. PM me if you are interested.

Doubt a duplicate title will cause you any problems, as lost one myself in a basement flood. The new title does say duplicate on it, and may be checked for liens come sell time, but what you gonna do. Think only a re-finance shows up on a Car Fax, as did this once with a credit union offer, and curious who the second owner was. Also good idea getting the VIN from the actual windshield plaque, as had paperwork get messed up a few times.
We try but I have also had some unhappy members of Vette Nation when they come down to Fla. to buy a Vette and then have to pay sales tax before they can get the temp tag to drive it back home.
Although it's credited to any sales tax they may pay back home, some states don't have a sales tax so the fla tax is extra. I always tell them to see if shipping is cheaper than paying the tax.

I just have to give a shout out to the DMV in Sarasota (and probably everywhere in FL): the FL. DMV could be the poster child for a well-run, helpful government department. Nothing that you've experienced in other DMVs happened when I registered my Lotus Esprit there.
Many states won't charge sales tax if you've already paid elsewhere and you can get temporary 10 day plates to move a car from another location (Maine is like this).

You sure that wasn't the Sarasota County Tax Collector's Office? Lotta newcomers confuse it with DMV. The Sarastoa County Tax Collector's Office is very well run.
