Vendor here sold me a set of Z06 replica wheels for my C6. OEM front size is 18x8.5, vendor sent me 18x9.5 saying there will be no problem(what a lie just for the sake of making a few bucks). The problem is the wheel width is bigger than the tire width. What are my options? Tia
well if you haven't done it yet, call the vendor back to discuss. If its a forum vendor, I would be surprised if they wouldn't try to make it right. You didn't say what was meant by "no problem." was it that they wouldn't stick out of the front wheel wells or that your tire would fit? And you didn't say whether you specifically asked the vendor the tire size question. Also, if you have email exchanges on the size issue, that will help you make a case. Not trying to give you a hard time, just trying to understand the whole issue.
what you don't state is, what resolution have you done with the vendor? in response to the tires don't fit (your words), did you say that to the vendor? what was the response? why didn't you ask to return the wheels? or exchange the wheels for the correct size? or if there are no correct sizes at this vendor, for a full refund for at least 2 wheels? get the drift? oh and name the name, if it's a valid rant with two sides to the story.
A an option, you may end up preferring the fit of the 9.5" width wheels. If they're base car offset, then you'll definitely be fine. The extra inch isn't going to hurt you. If they're Z06 offset as well as width, you can still run them, as long as you stay with your stock 245 front tires. 245 on a 9.5 is a perfectly acceptable combination, and is what I have run for several years. In addition to my personal experience, all major tire manufacturer websites I've referenced, as well as tire retailers such as Tire Rack (not that I consider them an authority) also list the acceptable wheel width for the 245 to be 8.0 to 9.5 inches.
See my recent thread in Tech/Perf with pictures entitled "My Narrow Body C6 with Z06 front wheels".
Just wanted to let you know of a problem about the oem replica wheels. A gentleman i met the day we purchased our new vette told me he asked the dealer to put on a set of Z06 wheels on his 2010 grandsport. The dealer told him the only wheels they could get were the replicas. He went through 4 sets and still could not get them to balance out, they would shake and shimmy. Finally the dealer found an original set of wheels and that solved his problem. Just hope you do not have the same problem he did.
Return the 9.5" at the Vendors expense and get the 8.5" in exchange. Don't let the Vendor sell you what they have instead of what you want.
GM specifies an 8.5" wheel for the 245/40/18 on a C6.
GM specifies a 9.5" wheel for the 275/35/18 on the Z06 and GS.
If the 9.5" wheel would "work" for both GM would supply one size.
9.5" wheel is NOT right for a 245 width tire.
No doubt! If you ordered the C6 fitment (8.5) and they shipped the wrong size they should admit to and correct the problem...at their expense. Don't keep something you didn't order and don't want.
Well, to clear things up the vendor did not have at that time the 18x8.5 and said that the 18x9.5 will fit with no problem. Sure they fit the tire size but like jschindler said it does not look right. The problem is not fit but look, vendor will not take the front wheels back. This vendor does not even have a tel.# on his webpage.......lesson learned that there are good vendors and fishy vendors. The fix would be a new set of front wheels (18x8.5) or replace all four tires which are due in a few months. What size should I get for the front 18x9.5 and what size for the rear 19.10? would it work? Tia
Hmm, Vendor said they will fit fine and they do, this has been verified by a few members in this thread.
He said he did not have the 8.5 inch wheels but he did have the 9.5's which you agreed to take.
Yes, you can mount the tire on the wheel but it does not FIT. Tire and wheel Companies are in business to SELL their product, not to provide you with the correct product.
Look at it this way; If you have a size 10 foot, it will fit into a size 11 shoe and can also can be crammed into a size 9 shoe but only the size 10 FITS.
