Default TPMS Problem! Ugh!!

So Initialy all Tire Monitors were working except the Back Left tire.. I went months without changing it and just dealt with the Service Tire Monitor Warning. So 2 weeks ago i decided to go buy the sensor and get it installed. Once i got the back left sensor installed and started the car a warning showed up saying "RIGHT REAR TIRE FLAT" it was now showing no reading for the back left and now a 0 reading for the right rear.. i went to GM and had them try to reprogram all sensors and they said they couldnt get a reading from the tire that said FLAT. They suggested i replace that sensor also.... Even tho it was working 20 min prior... so Today i go get that sensor replaced so now both back tire sensors are new.. I go to GM again and they tell me that they are not getting any reading from the Front 2 tires and are unable to program the sensors!!!! ughhh.. but the 2front sensors are showing a reading and the back is showing "LR --- RR xxx"

Its a 05 C6 Base Model.. Not sure what to do here!

BEZ06 knows sensors and it would be worthwhile to contact him here on the forum. If you go to a local tire store they can relearn your sensors in about 2 minutes just by walking around the car with the tool. I would start there and once you know the sensors are relearned correctly you might have a better chance of finding the problem. It might even be the receiver in the vehicle and not the sensors at all.

Best of luck.

Hi kingdady - when was your car built???

The reason I ask is that I had an '05 that was built in July 2004. It had an early version sensor that was also used on the 2004 XLR.

My car, and other C6's built before about Sept 2004 will have those early sensors.

The early sensors can be triggered with a magnet instead of a TPMS tool.

Two of my early sensors responded to either a tool or a magnet, but the other two only responded reliably to a magnet.

So....if your car is a very early 2005 (built before about Sept 2004), try using a magnet on those front sensors durig the program procedure. You'll need the tool for those two new rear sensors.

BTW, did you see the new sensors??? If so, they should have been gray peanut shaped sensors wih GM part# 25758220. Is that what you got and what is installed in your rear wheels?

Did you see the old ones they removed from your rear wheels? If they were the gray peanut shaped ones, then your front ones are probably those ones as well. Those ones require a TPMS tool to trigger them.

If your old rear sensors were black square shaped sensors, then those are the magnetically triggered ones, and the front ones are almost certainly those type as well.

Good luck!!

Bob

Good info from Bob, as usual. I would add that there should not be any reason to go back to the dealer after having a sensor replaced. Any tire dealer capable of replacing the sensor should be able to also re-program the system. These TPMS systems have been standard on all cars for a few years, so all tire dealers should be able to deal with them by now.

The inital post makes me wonder if a couple of the sensors are mis-located; car thinks they are on one wheel but they're on a different wheel.

A proper re-train should fix that. But if one of the sensors won't work to train, then I get confused.

kingdady – Since you’ve been to the dealership already and are still experiencing this concern with your TPMS, I would suggest calling GM Canada Customer Assistance so they can help you figure this out. Their number is (800) 263-3777.

Thanks,
Laura

Have 2010 GS. 3 months of trying to fix the "Service tire monitors" warning to no avail. Dealer replaced tire sensors, receiver all parts of the system and I still get the message. Don't know what to do next. Maybe lemon law since this is a safety issue. Good luck with your situation.

I had a rear sensor replaced recently. After installation the car needs to be put through some sort of learning procedure. It took the technicians a while. I think they were learning too. But it works properly now.

I put TP sensors in my '07 Z06 autocross/track wheels and used a tech tool to reprogram after each wheel change. The tool can check and read the serial number from a sensor even if it not mounted on a wheel. It can be tested laying on a bench. If you have Discount stores there check with one of them, they seem to very good here about helping with any tire related issue.

BTW my '07 replacement is showing in delivery 8 now.

Sweet, I can't remember seeing a silver ZR1 before....makes it look serious! What wheels are those?
