Lisa,
I'm so sorry to read this. God I hate this for you but I can't even begin to express how glad I am that you are o.k. Please let me know if there is anything I can do for you.

Hope you can make a full recovery soon. Your ZR1 will be fixed and will look as good as new.

I hope you get better, it could have happened to anybody. I noticed that the "brake" light on doesn't really mean that the e-brake is fully engaged. I usually pull it all the way up until I hear it click at least three times. Thanks for the reminder, good luck!

I worked for an Engineering firm back in 1981 that did a lot of expert testimony for one of the big three car companies. Compared to every case I worked on back then with run-away cars, you are just fine! Car doesn't look that bad and you didn't get hurt that badly or killed. There were many cases where people were killed by their run-away vehicle. It was so darn sad. It's amazing what a car can do when it takes off by itself. I've had it happen to me just once, but luckily my driveway is not very steep and I hopped in and stopped it.
I'm so glad you were not badly hurt and even your car came out with what I would describe as minor damage.
And, by the way, thank you so much for posting this, you may save someone's life. You are a class act!

Sorry about your injuries and the car. Hopefully you recover quickly, as others said.. the car can always be fixed or replaced.
Stories like this are exactly why I dont trust the parking brake to begin with, leave mine parked in 1st. I've seen my share of vehicles where the parking brake has been not trust worthy.

A little story to cheer you up-
Back in my police days, I pulled a late night traffic stop on a speeder out on the deserted two lane road along the edge of the village, something like 53 mph in a 40 zone. He had license and insurance, not drinking, everything was cool. So I gave him my speech about "Let's make a deal- you'll obey the speed limits in xxxx and I won't write you any tickets. Deal?" Like everyone else I tried it on, he accepted the deal.
Just as I turned to walk back to my squad, it started moving backwards. Slowly. So I started jogging after it, and the car teased me by accelerating just a little faster than I could run. Soon it was going fast enough that I wasn't sure what I'd do if I did catch it, but I kept running anyway. Since the front wheels were turned, it did a big arc and went down into the deep ditch and sideswiped a phone pole with a huge "Whumpf". So I got into it just as my stoppee pulled up in his car and asked if I needed help. I thanked him and said no, I've got it under control now! He waved, said Thanks, and drove sway.
After a few back and forth surges, I managed to get the squad back on the pavement and back to the PD. Looked a lot worse than your ZR1.
The next day, the Chief examined the car and discovered that the detents on the transmission selector were so worn that the lever would vibrate from Park down into Drive all by itself, with the motor running. That explained why the car didn't start to move when I got out, but waited several minutes while I was talking to the other driver. He didn't gig me for the accident, and when he filled out the State accident form, he wrote "None" in the driver information section.
Sometimes we get lucky, that squad could have backed out in front of another car on the road. We look forward to you and your car being back on the road.

Lisa, I have actually had something way too similar happen once, so believe me when I say I feel your pain -- at least the emotional part!
Here's hoping you heal soon You know my prayers go out for better luck that is just around the corner - you just used up all your bad luck so you don't have to worry about any more of that!

Well that sucks! I'm sorry about your injuries and the damages. All things considered it could have been way worse. Being dragged alongside (and possibly under a car) is serious. Get well soon and I hope the car repairs go well.

Ouch! This has happened to me as well, didn't pull the handle up far enough and car rolled down the driveway, but didn't hit anything. I must have been shot in the rear-end with luck.

Same thing happened to me about 20 years ago with my 5.0 mustang. I came outside and wondered why my neighbor across the street was parking his cars in his front yard when it hit me, thats my car!
