I own a beautiful 2007 black Z51, but I am getting a bit bored and doubt I will be able to wait for the C7 Z06, which I intend on purchasing when released (2014 is my guess)
Should I grab a 2012 GS (I love the widebody) or is it foolish to buy another C6 so close to the C7 launch???
My current car is paid off, but the GS looks great and moving to the LS3 would be nice also... thoughts????

What might or might not happen in the future should not have a bearing on what you can control right now.
You know the current C6 is a top notch reliable sports car.
You don't know what the C7 will bring to the table.
Go with the sure thing. JMHO

Keep what you have.
Maybe add custom wheels or something to renew your interest intil the C7 comes out.

If you are asking me to spend your money I would get the GS now. If I am spending my money I will wait for the C7. If I don't like it there will be lots of 2013 GS at bottom dollar prices in 2014.
I'm doing my best to wait for the c7 myself knowing that the c6's will be that much cheaper if I don't like the 7's.On that note,so will your trade in value!Or sale price...Live everyday like it's your last because 1 day you'll be right!!

I would go ahead any get the GS. It's going to be at least 2 years till the C7 comes out. I want to wait a couple of years after that for GM to get the bugs out.
It will be a new found love when your finished and no payments
I would wait until at least two to three years into the C7 so GM can work the bugs out.
I was in the same situation. When I found out how much they were willing to give for my 07 for a new GS, I added a SC and now am looking at maybe a wide body but definitely new wheels/wider tires. Power is awesome, something the GS won't have (unless you got the SC route).

You say above you plan on purchasing a C7 Z06 and you love the wide body C6 look. Honestly then, why would you consider buying the Grand Sport? Yeah it looks pretty cool, but honestly if you have a Z06 bug no grand sport is going to cure it. If your going to sell your current car and get a new one, do it right and get the real Z06. If you get the Grand Sport, chances are your going to look and it and say it's cool but I wish the side of my car said Z06 and there was an LS7 underneath the hood.

Sounds to me like you have already made up your mind, but if you need a conformation.....then go for it
thank you everyone... I appreciate you taking the time to reply. For those suggesting a Z06, I will explain my logic... I am confident GM will produce a great C7; therefore, it is likely that this current purchase may be a briefly owned car and 80k is too much given the potential 2 or 3 year situation.
I was able to negotiate a loaded 3LT 2012 GS down to 58,500 which is a very reasonable number so I guess my mind is made up! Thank you all again....great input. Life is short!

Great purchase. Hope you have fun w it over the next few years until the C7 is out. I plan to mod my C6 and then consider the C7 when it comes out.
