Another "fob not detected" question. Long story short-tried everything I know to reprogram fobs. Car will only run with fob in glovebox. Yes I have a smartphone also. Dealer says I have two bad FOB's and that the only thing wrong with the car. I hope he is right but has anyone had two bad fobs at the same time. Gm parts direct has fobs but apparently there are three different kinds of fobs out there for a 2007. What do you think?
Hard to believe that there's something wrong with the fobs, yet the car will start with a fob in the glovebox. If there were something wrong with the fob, putting it in the slot in the glovebox would not start the car.
Before you get rid of the fobs or pay the dealer for a non-existent problem, try the following.
1. Get rid of all electronic devices plugged into an outlet in the car, including cellphone chargers, etc..
2. Don't have cellphones or other large devices in your pocket with the fob when you're using it.
3. Replace the battery in the fob - CR2032, available at Wal-Mart - 2 for about $5.
I have put new batteries in both remotes and yep they are in the correct way. No phones in the car now or plug in devices including no locpick. The car will unlock and lock if you press the buttons, trunk will open. This all started with the phone in the pocket with the remote in the same pocket as well. The next day it would not start. I have tried to reprogram the remotes using the internet programming information. I have tried taking off the battery ground and I have had the car battery checked to make sure it was good. Is ther anyway to check the remotes? I will buy a remote but it does chap my A** that I have to take it to chevrolet for them to program the thing. This should be a recall problem. Dont recall seeing anything in the owners manual that says leave everything at home before you drive the darn thing.
Do the longer reprogramming routine from your owners manual. Maybe they just need a reboot like a computer that's not been rebooted for several months and things start to get a little wonkie. Worth a shot?
I don't buy that both fobs are bad, and if they open the trunk, then that proves they are good. There is no programming necessary when changing the battery in the fob. If the fob opens a door or the trunk, it means that the programming is done.
I had the exact same issue. After trying everything mentioned, two separate corvette techs came up with same solution: the RCDLR needed to be replaced. Had it done last Friday and the fobs have been working fine since. (2007 vette convertible)

No, no need. If it locks/unlocks doors & hatches, it does not need programming.

The receiver has antennas or modules in four locations as far as I know. Both doors, trunk and one inside in the dash. The receiver is probably bad for the dash location which is stopping you from starting it normally. Have you done anything under the dash? Did you check all the fuses?
