Default Jacking, jack stands advice

I am planning to put my C6 up on jack stands over the winter to paint my calipers and replace my brake pads with Hawk ceramics. I've been trying to get ready and I've got a few questions:
1) Which pucks will I need? I see sets on flea bay for $12.99, will they be sufficient?
2) When jacking, how do you jack, then slide the stand under when the jack is on the puck/jacking point? or when you jack one side, that whole side goes high enough to slide the stand into the other spot?
3) I assume I'll need a low profile jack, correct?
I would like to have the car completely on jack stands, with the wheels off. Am I overthinking this?
Sure would be easier with a lift, I know!

Low profile jack is a must. Do not use bottle jacks on the pucks!

Dave, "vet" thread is still the definitive one on the topic.

Hockey pucks for "pucks". Low profile jack to "get it up". Jack stands under the points in the more central jacking points in the owner's manual for the long term lift.

I use a Craftsman 2-ton aluminum floor jack with the adaptor beam(s) to lift the ends of the car. My car sits fairly low so I have to use a double board 2 x 10 ramp in the front and a single board ramp in the rear so I can get the jack (with adaptor beam attached) under the car to the preferred lift points. I use the rectangular, snap-in BMW jacking pucks (which I install only when needed). The beveled jacking pucks fit nicely into the saddle of my jack stands. I've got a couple jacks so depending on which end of the car I'm working on, when the car is sitting on the jack stands I'll use one or both jacks for added stability and security. I've even used wheels under the sides of the car just as a fail safe. When I'm under the car I'm overkill for safety.

Whenever possible I go to my friend's house to use his home (shop) lift. It's much easier.

Costco has a really nice LoPo jack for around $100.

I bought a low profile jack from Harbor Freight for around 80 bucks. I just use the cheap rubber pucks and they work great. I also bought rubber jack stand covers at Harbor Freight to protect the cars bottom. I jack up only the front or back (using chocks).

Be careful! I read a thread a couple weeks ago about a vette slipping off the jack and damaging the body.
