Default Cigarette Lighter Problem

Recently, when pushing in my cigarette lighter, it started shooting fuses. I just finished installing a whole new lighter assembly. UGH! Well, I am still having the same problem. Charger for my cell phone does not shoot fuse when I use it in the lighter assembly. Any help appreciated.

Do you mean it blows the fuse ?
Are you replacing it with a 20A fuse?

Yes, it is blowing the fuse when I push in the lighter but not when I insert a charger for my cell phone. I am using a 20 amp fuse.

Could be the lighter element itself is shorted (sometimes they distort and short out adjacent windings). Borrow one from another car that fits and try that one

The crazy thing is with mine, all of my chargers work perfectly. It is just the lighter that blows the fuse when depressed.

Your chargers probably use about half an amp. The lighter probably uses twenty times as much. Sounds like a bad lighter pulling too much amperage.

My cigarette lighter does not work. I wanted to use it for the battery tender. Where is the fuse for the lighter and what number is it?

TIA

Mellow- Yellow,
If you keep blowing fuzes I'd suggest taking it to the dealership or replacing the entire lighter assembly. This might be an indication of another type of issue with the electrical system.

Justin

Default 2008 Z06 lighter

Just bought a 08 Z06 and the cigarette lighter doesn't work. I don't smoke but went to use the port for a Navagation and found out it was dead. Pull the fuse and saw it was blown, went to replace and it blew right when I put it in. Took the cigarette lighter out of the port, then put in another fuse as soon as I put the lighter back in, it blew again. I didn't even push the lighter in, blew just setting in the hole without depressing it. Hope nothing major. I try to see if I can charge my phone or other devices, don't care if the cigarette lighter itself don't work since I don't smoke.

Have you tried plugging the lighter into the socket inside the center console (under the arm rest)?

Maybe there's a problem with the socket in the dash.

Might be worth a try but I'm with the others in thinking it's the lighter itself.

Good Luck.

Are all the lighter plugs on that one 20amp fuse? I will try that, half to put another fuse in. Lighter never been used, but something blowing the fuse. Thanks
