Default little filter

I had the vett on ramps and oil drained before i remembered i had not picked up a replacement oil filter....duhh,,S0 in the beater i go to our gm dealer to get a filter.I tried to find the part number in the manual but gave up looking --so just asked for a filter for a 6,2.The counter girl hands me this tiny filter.aI looked at it and said this can not be the correct filter for that large engine...but yepp, iti is,[I] alwaays thought that a large filter was better especially for a large engine. But once i saw the spot it fits in it made sense. Now time to store her..

He apparently has a 6.2L LS3 so it has to be a Delco 48 series or equivalent aftermarket filter number that uses the 48 series mounting thread pitch. 44 or 46 series will not fit a LS3/LS7/LS9 engine of any model year.

FWIW Autozone carries ACDelco filters....probably a bit cheaper than buying through the dealership. Happy hibernation!

We got three Chevys and all use those small filters: PF46E, PF47, UPF-48R

They all look just like the other (dimensionally anyway), why can't they make just one filter that works for all of them?

PF46 does not have a bypass valve(it is located in the engine above the oil filter) and the PF 48 has the bypass valve as the later engines do not have a bypass valve in the engine and the oil filter MUST have the bypass valve. Even though the two look the same, the threaded mounting hole has a different diameter and different thread pitch between the PF46 and the PF48 series filters, thus they are not interchangeable. I don't know what the PF47 is.
