Because it will be free if done under warrenyy. If out of warrenty you have a good point.
If it was a defective tire and you replaced it with another defective tire how much time would it buy you? Check the "Harmonic Balancer" threads here on CF, some guys are on their 3rd stock balancer!
I don't know about you but I personally wouldn't want my corvette torn apart that many times. A lot of guys are having trouble having GM buck up and change it because they say the wobble is not significant enough to be changed out. Once the wobble gets bad enough it takes out the other components on the serpentine system, one by one...a true living hell on the wallet.
Recently had my damper swapped out on my 06 30K mile car. It wasnt cheap but better to get it done early. "You can pay me now or you can pay me later".

Not logical to replace junk with proven junk! OEM elastomer used to bond the inner and outer half will fail eventually, its a time bomb the bean counter from GM gave us.
There are a couple of established ways to change it out:
1. Super charger guys do it by lifting the engine but that involved removing the IM to provide clearance at top.
2. OEM, removing steering rack.
I did the change out with the second method, could have waited and use the first method when I was replacing the stock IM with the Fast102 (I finally leaped for the Fast a year after the damper), but I felt the need to be proactive (a good thing), to avoid the damper nightmare that some forum member went through!
Experience with that wasn't bad, just time consuming! Now, its all good with an ATI!
The belt on my 07 chirps when the engine is cold. I hit it with a little wd40 and that stopped it temporarily. the car has 44k on it and the belts have never been changed...Do you think thats why it chirps?
WD-40????????? The belt is rubber, try silicone lube! Or Change the belt if it is bad, if that does not do it....go with what some other guys are saying.
