The owner's manual tells you when it is active. Just avoid those situations and it will not bother you. Biggest issue is in slow traffic where you might shift right in the middle of the active window. You have to teach yourself to shift sooner or later. As long as you shift to second at or before 14 mph or to second after 20 mph you bypass CAGS. If you are aggressive on the throttle CAGS is disabled and there is no window. You can also move the shifter slightly into 4th and then move back to 3rd. Too much movement to go back to second. All of that makes it easy to deal with. As for the $20 a bypass costs that is money you could spend on a more worthwhile mod. $20 is still worth something and shouldn't be wasted on something that can be done free.

My Mom stuck me behind the wheel of our 1952 Chevy stick shift when I was 12 years old. I learned to drive by instinctively knowing when to shift depending on ever changing conditions. The first gadget I installed on my Z06 was the CAGS eliminator. I don't let the car tell me when to shift or how to drive to avoid the CAGS. I just shift when the car needs shifting depending on a multitude of inputs to my brain and after 57 years of driving, I do it without thinking.
I don't let a little light on the dash tell me to speed up to avoid the 1 to 4 feature. I shift gears when it feels right to shift gears, no matter what the computer thinks.

"Need", no. It really depends on what kind of driving you do. If you find yourself in slow traffic, the skip shift is a great thing. If you don't hardly ever drive in traffic, then it's not needed at all and you can drive around it. I have it in and love it.

2X. Well said. I don't want to modify how I want to drive in a specific circumstance just to avoid CAGS. It's why I have installed three so far. If you DIY oil changes, then you can install a CAGS resistor defeat. Or blow a fuse if you don't want to lift the car.

I never felt the need for one. In normal driving it never engages; the only time it does is when I'm stuck behind some sloth, in which case the alternative shifting techniques described previously work just fine.

easy install under the car, cheap, why avoid? When you can eliminate?
This is a simple and fun modification...first one I did and never regreted it...CAGS skip shift eliminator cost you 16 bucks.

In a nut shell:
Raise rear of car
Locate the CAGS solenoid on drivers side of transmission
Unplug harness
Zip tie harness
Plug white connector into the Cags solenoid.....

YOur done...

The skip shift is useless and annoying and it will come up everytime you drive your car in normal situations with all the Honda van moms everywhere going 25 mph...

My first mod. I went into 3rd when I was passing someone and almost cut them off. I had to quickly shift back to 2nd. That's all it took for me to install it.
