However the interstates don't have stop lights. No reason GM needed to do what they did here. Other car manufacturers don't have this restriction so why does GM?
My 2006 350Z roadster had this restriction. There are legal reasons why this was done. Idiots text while driving. Entering an address in a nav system while driving on an interstate is about as irresponsible.

I have not yet met a built-in nav that doesn't lock out destination entries while moving, although there are probably some that allow it.

The C6 nav will allow you to use the first page of Previous Destinations while moving, I've used other systems which don't even allow that.
My DD is a Sonata with Navi and I can program destinations while on the move, I do it every night on the way to work, it programs in the destination and checks traffic for me, if there's traffic I detour.

1. Do you key in a complete address (state, city, street, number) or just hit the "work" or a "favorite" button? If the latter, all built-in navs will do that. It's the keying of complete addresses that has by and large been locked out while the car is moving...and rightly so.

2. What year is your Sonata? Our 2000 Odyssey would allow address entry while driving but later model years--after car manufacturers wised up--would not.

It isn't just GM - most nav systems do not allow full input while moving

Maybe that's it, I hit the "work" button in the address book and it comes right up, I'll have to try and program in an address while moving (safely of course) and see what happens. My Sonata is a 2011.....

Saved $5 and bought a new 40LM with a larger screen, with more features. How can anyone justify $200 every year to buy new CD updates for their factory NAV?

I wish now that I had saved the $1750 I paid for the factory NAV as I would have that money in my bank account plus I would have the 6 disc CD player instead of the single disc player standard with the factory NAV.
My car is 4 years old and I think I used the GM Nav 2 times. It had me going in circles. I couldn't believe how non-user friendly this thing is. What a waste of money.
I only use the Garmin from now on and it can be programmed on the fly.

Entering my home address requires a minimum of 23 keystrokes. It would be the height of foolishness to try to do that while driving my car in traffic. Even scarier is the prospect of being surrounded by other drivers who are tapping away at their navigation system keyboard.

Well with a Corvette one shouldn't be alone in the car very often. As for me, the wife is competent enough to key in a destination - especially an outlet mall we were detouring to.

I have not yet found all the perks of the car. But it does have voice activation does it not? Seems like I should be able to enter a destination by voice.

I have not noticed this restriction on any Honda we have owned. I'm pretty sure we have had more than one occasion to add a destination while driving. We can also run everything from the radio to the air conditioning via voice commands. I haven't tried adding a destination via voice though. I wonder if it works on either car.

Sorry. The built-in navigation unit does not feature voice entry of destination details

OnStar navigation, a totally separate and distinct feature, does allow you to speak your destination in detail.

No problem, just copied and pasted the nav voice command section of the .pdf nav manual file I have for my 2007. The commands should be the same for all years,

Great, but what we are talking about is entering a new destination while driving by voicing number, street, city, state. Not possible as far as I know, except by OnStar.

I have been avoiding this thread because of the great write up by Talon90.

Today I read through here and didn't see a single mention of this unit by Sunset Orange Creations: http://shop.sunsetorangecreations.co...2?keywords=nav

I asked the salesman about the navi DVD updates and he told me it doesn't use DVDs.

I assume there is some sort of satellite based updates like with my DirectTV unit.

With OnStar capability, there should be no reason for DVD updates. Updates could be downloaded (automatically) to GM cars with OnStar (enabled or disabled).
It's hard drive based plus powered by information sent over SiriusXM network.

Just like DirectTV then. Dodge probably forces one to keep a subscription to SiriusXM. I didn't ask for details as I assumed it came in via satellite.

This.

My 2012 Range Rover allows me to put in addresses, search, etc while moving...but the best thing is the voice prompts. It also is upgraded at the dealer by firmware, since it has a 500GB NAV Hardrive.

That being said, I have had NAV on every GM truck I've owned, and while it has its quirks it never has failed at getting me to a destination.
Aftermarket looks just that-aftermarket...and no way am I putting a 100.00 NAV stuck on my windshield in a 60K+ vehicle. Tacky.

The Vette is no different then the GM trucks I had- but where it sucks is having to buy update discs. That is pure BS IMO.

Default Does anyone else have this problem?

My factory NAV will get me to the destination street, but is WAY off on the address. It has been off by as much as 1 mile.

Most of the time it tells me 'I'm there' when I actually have another 50 to 500 yards to go.

Anyone else have a similar problem with the factory NAV?
