My 2012 Range Rover allows me to put in addresses, search, etc while moving...but the best thing is the voice prompts. It also is upgraded at the dealer by firmware, since it has a 500GB NAV Hardrive.
That being said, I have had NAV on every GM truck I've owned, and while it has its quirks it never has failed at getting me to a destination.
Aftermarket looks just that-aftermarket...and no way am I putting a 100.00 NAV stuck on my windshield in a 60K+ vehicle. Tacky.
The Vette is no different then the GM trucks I had- but where it sucks is having to buy update discs. That is pure BS IMO.
Mercedes is the same way. They use NAVTEQ along with Acura, Chrysler, Ford, Dodge, Honda, Infiniti, Jaguar, Jeep, Land Rover, Lincoln, Nissan, Volvo and VW. Can't speak as to what NAVTEQ charges for maps for other cars but for my MB if you want an update it is $249.00. For a 2010 Corvette it is $159.00 and for a 2011 it is $199.00.
I figure there are not enough different road changes or POI's that would compel me to buy an update at this point.
My factory NAV will get me to the destination street, but is WAY off on the address. It has been off by as much as 1 mile.
Most of the time it tells me 'I'm there' when I actually have another 50 to 500 yards to go.
Anyone else have a similar problem with the factory NAV?
That's because all GPS units use an address estimation algorithm to find an address number on a street. The maps do not have every address just the first and last numbers for varying length of road sections and just estimate the location of a address number on that road mathematically. So shorter road sections tend to be more accurate. If I put my address into my vette it takes me right to my driveway but I have been on highway sections where both my Garmin and the GM unit are a mile off from reality.

Land Rover updates my hardrive navigation database for free 2 times per year, or at my request when servicing.
Could be a dealer only perk, not sure. I know some dealerships charge, but I recieved free oil changes and perks for 24 months with my RR purchase.

Wish Corvette did the same.
They will if you select the right package when you buy it. My daughter just sold a new Mercedes to a couple last night and they after the car negotiation was done added another $8,000 in extended 7 year warranty, 100% maintenance for 5 years plus some other junk. So it just depends on when you want to pay for things, up front or when you need it but either way nothing you get from the dealer is free. She sold a SLS gull wing last month for full boat sticker with nothing thrown in and by the time the guy was done it cost him $267,000 with no freebies included.

Not really sure what you mean..I didn't pay "extra" for anything. I negotiated a killer deal (Range Rover typically discounts 1-2%) at roughly 10% off sticker and I didn't buy an extended warranty nor did I "upfront" any money for oil changes or service.
The GM clearly laid out service fees on typical 15,000/30,000/45,000 mile service schedules, and I found them pretty palatable.
So..maybe I'm just misunderstanding you, or maybe its just that Mercedes buyers like padding the dealers pocket.
A good dealer throws in freebies if they want to keep a good customer showing up every other year to buy a new car.
It depends on the buyer. If they discuss those special things up front the dealer keeps that in mind when negotiating the sales price. If they don't the F&I guy tries to sell them the added items when they go in to sign the papers.
Believe me either way the buyer is paying in the end. The dealers do not give anything they do not have to or will mot end up benefiting them in the end.

Yes..very true.
I have had that happen on other cars, they really like to sell that "extended warranty".
Honda is terrible about it.
Hendrick even has their own "service" credit card you can pay for upfront.

It sound like your daughter works for a MB dealership. The person that spends over a quarter million dollars for a car can well afford an extra $8 grand. Did she at least throw in floor mats?

Both my son and eldest daughter are with Mercedes.
No floor mats but sent him to a very high end foothills restaurant on her tab.
I will not disclose what the margin was but she on that one sale set the Company record for highest net margin ever in the Company history and they have multiple very high end dealerships including Porsche, Mercedes and Audi.
She is a very very good salesperson plus is tall and very good looking so that helps. She consistently sells new cars with no discount which makes a big difference to her bank account and the Company and they are very happy to have her there. When I stop by the dealership and talk with the GM and Sales manager they have a big smile on their face when they talk about her.
