Crystal Red & Cyber Gray Owners Please

I have a Cyber Gray Z06 and it hides dirt very well. Easy color to maintain. In the shade it appears a little dull, but in the sun, it really POP's when the ultra tiny blue flakes reflects the sun at you.

It could definitely cause some confusion down the line for people not aware of this...

My guess is there is some of the original Zurilic flake CRM in the supply chain for repairs but not sure how it all works. The funny part is both the old and the new CRM colors have the same paint code 89.

I'm in the process of having my driver side-view mirror replaced under warranty, due to the fact it can't be repaired (power adjuster inoperable).
The dealer has sent the new mirror out twice to be painted, and both times it has come back a shade too dark.
Can you share more specifics , or a source, regarding the different versions of 89U.
Any info will be greatly appreciated - Thanks in advance.

Later I emailed the BG engineer about the new CRM paint code in case I ever needed to get it repainted and this was his reply.....
Randy,
We never changed the color code. It is still code 89 Crystal Red. When the Zurilic flake was removed from the formulation the new formulation kept the same code. I do not know how they will keep them straight, but I would guess they will have an early code 89 and a late code 89?

I get a lot of positive comments about the CG even from people who have no reason to tell me they favor that color over any other color. However, I think you will find admirers of every color.
I don't think CG shows dirt but I also think most metallics don't show dirt especially the silvers and grays.
The blue flakes in the CG are really cool on a bright sunny day but you have to be standing next to the car and then you see the blue flakes. It doesn't turn blue from a distance.
All that said, I test drove a CRM at the dealer before I found the CG one. I think these are both great colors. The CG had 5,100 mile, a red and black interior, carbon fiber trim and chromed ZR-1 style wheels; the CRM was solid black inside, had 14,000 miles and all stock. Those little touches made the difference; both colors are IMO great.

Well said, I couldn't agree more.

Both are real nice colors but if I had to choose I would take CRM. I believe the delay had to do with the special ingredient for the paint was made in Japan, right where the tsunami hit.

CRM is a beautiful color, but I finally opted for CG although not for the usual reasons. I think CG allows the lines of the car to really pop, in virtually all light. I bought my car during a strong rain storm, and while my dealer (Criswell) had every color on the lot, and the CG just looked great even in the rain (and yes I do drive it in the rain.) On rainy days, it reminds me of a shark cruising the ocean. I did not want a color that screamed "Look at me!"The color seems to appeal to all ages, and I have gotten a lot of compliments but that did not factor at all into my decision, frankly. I had it in a parking garage in Bethesda (MD) a number of months ago while I had dinner with my daughter in a restaurant. When I came out, an attorney had left a note on his card indicating that he was all set to buy a Porsche until he saw the CG Vette, and he wanted one. We exchanged some emails and I answered his various questions, but I don't know if he ultimately bought one. The color is forgiving of dirt. I don't think it shows a shine as well as black or some of the other colors, but I am happy with my results with polish, rejex, and a Porter Cable. More than happy, frankly. I don't spend a lot of time fussing with it. I'd rather drive it. My plate is "UNDRWAY" surrounded by a retired USN frame.
Another color I seriously considered was the Atomic Orange, since I love the color orange. In the end I wasn't completely sure that I could live with it for the long haul, but it is a stunning color. Best of luck with your happy decision. Don't second guess yourself in any event.

Thats interesting because I had heard that was the reason they dropped Jet stream blue also. The specific flake was made in only 2 places and one or both were destroyed in the earthquake or aftermath. Anyone else confirm this about the JSB color?

I've had both (kinda) -
My favorite color as a kid growing up was Candy Apple Red - all the hot cars had a version of that color. So when I finally bought my Vette, I wanted it to be as close to it as possible. So I got a 2000 Magnetic Red vert , with oak interior. I can't tell you how many times people have come up to me and say that's their favorite color, color combo, etc.
When I moved up to a C6, the original Grand Sport that was shown at SEMA was the identical color package scheme that I have now - I fell in love with it and couldn't be without it. In my opinion, the CG with just black interior is OK, but the red or red/black interior is what really makes it an eye grabber. I've had many comments on this one as well.
Both cars are stunning when clean. Both are relatively similar with "some dirt" - not like a black car at all. In fact, one thing you may not know is that the Cyber Grey has specks of Lemans Blue in the paint, so in the sun, it really lights up the car.
Are there days when I wish I still had a red (CRM) - yes. But I am just as happy with my CG and will keep it until something convinces me (maybe a C7 vert a few years down the line) to get another.

I was wondering why Patrick was posting Crystal Red vs Cyber Gray because I know him, and I know he has a Cyber Gray!!
I have a Cyber Gray Callaway convertible, by the way, and think it's a fantastic color, especially with silver and chrome embellishments.

Never noticed that Randy till you mentioned it. Seadawg posted to an old thread and off it went again. Actually you are not supposed to post to a thread that has no posts in over 45 days. Per Mod Jimtn
