I recommend you take action to address the problem. A good friend of mine ignored the column lock recall notice on his 2005 (I'm pretty sure it was a recall notice). It malfunctioned one day while he was on the track and he plowed into a barrier. He was OK but it caused some fairly substantial damage to his car. Don't put it off...have it checked and fixed (if necessary).
