2012 A6 HUGE Change???
z51vett
Does this change effect every 2012 Automatic Trans or only the manuel or when the auto trans is in manuel shift mode???????

ONLY when in "S" mode using the paddle shifters which GM calls the tap system (apparently on the Camaro this mode is called Manual)
Upshifting: 1-2, 2-3, 3-4
1-2 65% improvement in shift response time (GM claims it matches a dual clutch time)
2-3 50% improvment
3-4 can't recall the number, if listed....article is 5 pages long...more crap about an auto tranny then I will ever want to know
Article indicates no intention of earlier model reflashing, which is par as GM didn't allow for 06 and 07 A6's to be reflashed with the 08 tranny retune.
The info was released to the public as part of a presentation on the new Camaro LZ1 (the 580 hp version if I have the id name wrong). When questioned further the engineers admitted that the system already was released on the 2012 Corvette but just not advertised--neither to the public nor to dealers.
I've sent off a pm to a major dealer asking why the GM silence on the issue as they were very upfront about the improvement in shifting times going from 07 to 08...lets see if I get an answer.....
Nay Sayers- Don't like it, doubt it, question it...fine... as long as you have gotten your butt out of your chair, gone to the store, bought the mag and read the article...

The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
I had an '08 with the A6 transmission, it seemed okay at the track - at least I could work with it (hpde), though it ran a little warmer than I liked. The upshifts were pretty slow (no tune) so I would call for gear changes early. It boiled down to timing of the shifts which is something you get used to. The terrific torque of the LS-3's made the timing of the shifts less critical.
I just traded it in on a '12 GS also with the A6. I noticed a difference in the way it shifts in both 'D' and 'S' modes. One of the new features I found is you can downshift (and upshift) with the paddle shifters when in D mode.
I also noticed when in S mode, the car does seem to shift better and yes, I did notice it was a bit quicker and more positive than the '08. The car is still in its break-in period so I have not had opportunity to drive it very hard to notice any changes in the programming. I'll have to wait until track season starts again before I will drive it hard enough to experience the difference (I don't like driving aggressively on city streets, it isn't like the old days).
If someone could send an link to the article or to their website so I know I'm researching the right web site it would be much appreciated.

end up in disaster.....
Funny thing was that when they told me NOT to do it, I had already been doing it for a year and
I had done hundreds of them at that point.
The conversion is available from me from 2006-2009. 2010, 2011, and 2012 are all DIFFERENT
and NOT interchangeable insofar as I know. I have not really tried to mix em up
and I'm not willing to smoke a $700 controller and 60 bucks in ATF and a few hours labor to find out.
I in 2008 the engine controllers changed and having not realized that, I smoked $2,000. of
E38 engine controllers before I figured out what was wrong.....
I would not mess around with the later ones.

Chuck, are you able to see the different parameters with the later models? Are they not tunable? What would make it not tunable? Did GM change components in the transmission that would make it more difficult to not predict the outcome of a tune? I have a 2012 gs A6, don't want to tune it now but in the future I was thinking it would be a desirable thing to do if it "wakes up" the performance of the transmission. Sometimes I wish I lived on the East Coast, I would love to learn more about this, especially being a computer guy.
What about the later model engines? At some point in time I will install a set of headers and polish the throttle body, maybe more if I think I need the horsepower for hpde and for all of that or any of those components I think a tune would be necessary.
