From as far as I have seen that little scoop is all show it's a blank it doesn't even penetrat the under hood liner no air goes through it.

What is "surge?"

Also, since a previous post mentions it- just because something is the most popular does not make it any good.

For example, those 1 dollar Totinos pizza's you can buy at the grocery store are the 'most popular' frozen pizza in America and Vizio is the 'most popular' brand of television in America

All I know is that Halltech makes the purdiest CAI out there.

But, some may get sticker shock.

It is functional. The underhood liner is just that...a underhood liner. The front fascia(bumper) is not the hood. Air does pass through the little scoop into the air cleaner compartment where it is ingested by the engine.

SOMEWHAT AGREE but it's primary designed purpose is to control fresh air turbulence into the engine bay (to prevent surging)and work with the side vents to extract hot engine compartment air out.

I like it and, for my taste, am very satisfied.

It was time replace the stock air filters, but I was able to find a good deal on a used Airaid, so i said what the hell. I am not expecting too much but I live on a dirt road and like the idea of oiled filtration. Also I prefered the less complicated design to minimize the chance of leaks.

No, it's primary purpose is to get cold air to the compartment surrounding the air breather, but not a direct shot at the breather. Dave Hill said they designed it that way to prevent possible water ingestion into the engine.

Of course, the incoming cold air, by being diffused, and not a straight shot into the mouth of the air breather, thus the air is not turbulent across the MAF.

GM spent quite a bit of time designing the complete intake air system(cold air scoop, filer element, filter housing, placement of the MAF within the housing, etc), and when you start messing with the system, you can create problems, such as surging, throwing codes, etc..

I will investigate this on Saturday. The camaro ss has the same type of little scoop on the front. It didn't seem real

soo.. what? That doesn't answer my question.

I didn't realize that the laws of physics changed depending on the name of the model Corvette or it's horsepower.

Sounds like more hate being more go than show. How many zo6 and zr1's here racing they are just powerful street cars some with more power than others.

If you want to know something about a Corvette, check the Corvette out, not a Camaro. They are two different cars, not the same car with different names. Even within the Corvette nameplate, there are different models. If you want to check out the ZR1's supercharger, you don't raise the hood of a Base C6 and then conclude that the ZR1 does not have a supercharger..

More info on the front scoop and side vents please. I know the rear vents are functional cause I se the tube going to the rear brakes. I think I saw something for the front brakes too.

Thanks for the info to all. I like to ask questions here because there is a wealth of knowledge here. What I don't like is there is always a wise guy or gal who will chime in with wise comments. Of course I know that a camaro is a different car than the Vette. My only question was about the scoop on the front and gills. I own the car I am trying to get all the info I can about the car. I keep my car at a different location from where I live so I can't just go in the garage and look I have to ask questions. Thanks again to all the input

I had a Callaway Honker installed on my 2008 C6 before installing a supercharger. I had to install a diffuser to reducer turbulence that is offered by Callaway. Had no problems after the diffuser was installed. My rear wheel HP was 417 with Stainless Steel Works headers and high flow cats and a dyno tune. The CAI is available along with the radiator baffle and diffuser at a reasonable price.
