On Z51 rear rotors there is an area that does not get swept by the pads and they get rusted. I live in the desert too and they do get rusted overnight. I'm planning on taking care of mine in the next couple days along with the calipers.

There is more work needed attention!
Unless it is just shadow on your barrel, checked your profile, you have an '05, if the barrel hasn't been clean, 7 years of brake dust had already done its job and your clear coat is gone!

That was one of the reasons I replaced those wheels. They were in pretty rough shape when I got the car.
