C6 Navigation Issue

There may be a lot of commands for the radio but very few useful instructions for actual navigation. Useful would be, "navigate, Chevron, Hwy 74 and 5 Fwy, Capistrano" or "navigate, 1234 Fifth st., NoWhere, California". The last thing I want to do is program in my home address so I can tell the car to navigate there in the chance the car is stolen why give a crook your home address so you can be the victim of a burglary too.

Most people when using the Nav only program it to take them home when they are in an unfamiliar area or to keep track of the time it will take to get home. Assuming that you know your town fairly well pick a spot several miles away from your home and program that spot. This way when you are in an unfamiliar place it will always point you in the right direction.

In most states, including mine, the address on your registration must be your physical address. You can supply a post office box if you wish, but you must also include a physical address where the owner resides or does business. You are evidently lucky that California allows you to use a mail drop as a registration address.
It's one of the few things California did get right:
"Mailing Address Only on Registration Documents
Registration documents may now be issued showing only the registered owner's mailing address. However, this does not affect the information that must be shown on the application.
•The vehicle registration applications must include both the registered owner's residence or business and mailing address, if different.
•When a customer requests that the registration documents be issued showing only the mailing address, the following forms must be completed by the registered owner and submitted with the registration application: ◦A Statement of Facts (REG 256) requesting that only his/her mailing address be keyed on the registration documents.
◦A Change of Address (DMV 14) showing both the residence or business address and the mailing address.
NOTE: Although the registration document contains both addresses, only the mailing address is being keyed. Therefore, the DMV 14 is necessary to subsequently update the DMV database with the complete address information.
◦If the required forms are not submitted, the application will be returned by DMV."

Registration is supposed to be kept in the car however it doesn't have to have your residential address on it. You can have a mailing address on your registration which is different from your home address. Let the thief try and burglar the mail drop box as long as he can't find my home.

On both our previous 2006 and current 2009, the voice commands for Nav are worse than useless. If they simply didn't work, that would be one thing. But whenever I try a command, the system gives me some random, totally unrelated response. Like I say "Zoom In", and the system replies "Now Showing Golf Course Icons". Then it takes me 5 or 10 tries just to get the junk to go away.
Our 2009 also has the upgraded microphone on the A-Pillar, and the Bluetooth works well. But the Nav voice command system totally sucks.

You can buy the latest version from the GM Nav Disc Center online, or often buy last year's version for about half price from a member here.
Newer is better, but often only a little. We buy a new disc for our C6 each year, because we drive it all over the U.S. But for our grocery getters, once every 3 years is enough.
If you go to fleabay or something similar, be sure to find out the part number for sale and verify here that it's correct. Also, a few years (2009-2011?) had 2 discs, east and west. Be sure you get both.
