Default C6 Navigation Issue

My vette is equipped with a original factory Navigation/ Radio system. Recently, the speaker option on my Navigation has stopped functioning. Before, I could say the destination, however, now the button gives me no response. Any inside into this is greatly appreciated.

I wasn't aware that the factory nav was able to handle voice commands for the nav.

Yes, on the top right corner there is a button for voice commands for the NAV, its worked in the past, however, just recently it has not functioned. Not sure, if there is a sensor/ fuse that is used to operate that part.

Just a thought...

The mircophone in the A Pillar area.
Done anything to the A Pillar? Pinched wire for example.

Telephone/ On star/ nav direction voice all working?

Dirt/ Dust on the Voice button contact?

I've read all these threads where everyone is bitching that addresses can't be entered when the car is moving so assumed that there must not be a voice option to do this or why does everyone bitch about it.

My bad.

There may be a lot of commands for the radio but very few useful instructions for actual navigation. Useful would be, "navigate, Chevron, Hwy 74 and 5 Fwy, Capistrano" or "navigate, 1234 Fifth st., NoWhere, California". The last thing I want to do is program in my home address so I can tell the car to navigate there in the chance the car is stolen why give a crook your home address so you can be the victim of a burglary too.

Doesn't CA require a copy of the registration or ins card to be in the glove box ?

Most people when using the Nav only program it to take them home when they are in an unfamiliar area or to keep track of the time it will take to get home. Assuming that you know your town fairly well pick a spot several miles away from your home and program that spot. This way when you are in an unfamiliar place it will always point you in the right direction.

On both our previous 2006 and current 2009, the voice commands for Nav are worse than useless. If they simply didn't work, that would be one thing. But whenever I try a command, the system gives me some random, totally unrelated response. Like I say "Zoom In", and the system replies "Now Showing Golf Course Icons". Then it takes me 5 or 10 tries just to get the junk to go away.

Our 2009 also has the upgraded microphone on the A-Pillar, and the Bluetooth works well. But the Nav voice command system totally sucks.

So the other post by B y r o n makes no sense. A thief can still discover where one lives in CA. Nav or no nav.

Registration is supposed to be kept in the car however it doesn't have to have your residential address on it. You can have a mailing address on your registration which is different from your home address. Let the thief try and burglar the mail drop box as long as he can't find my home.

Maybe I make a little better sense now?

No response at all, i.e. no ding and no muting of the radio or microphone icon display, would mean the button has stopped functioning. If you get the muting, etc. but then no response it sounds like this would be a microphone problem. I doubt that either is going to be easy to find/repair. If your into pulling the dash apart, go for it. Otherwise it would be a dealer issue. And, FYI, if it is the button, no matter how simple the problem, the dealer procedure is to send the entire unit off to a repair shop in Ohio.

And for those who never read manuals, BWAHAHAHAHAHA, the voice commands work reasonable well as long as you enunciate your words and accentuate the sounds that differentiate similar words. For example, Yes has a high frequency hiss at the end and No has a low frequency tone at the start. Extend both and the nav recognition goes way up. Say "ya" or "na" and you will be able to join those who say the nav sucks.

My favorite voice commands that I have no idea how many buttons it would take to accomplish, POI Off, Turn List, Freeway, Gas, Detour, Voice Guidance Off, Voice Guidance On, and Cancel Destination.

For the home address issue, set your home address to a nearby intersection. If you can't find your way home from there you have more issues than just that you didn't RTFM...

I keep the list of voice commands on a sheet printed and in a plastic sleeve in the car - posted here. In my non GM car, our voice commands work great and the sheet is useful. The Corvette struggles to recognize them. I've just upgraded to the new mic on the A-pillar, haven't tried it out yet.

Here's the sheet:

In most states, including mine, the address on your registration must be your physical address. You can supply a post office box if you wish, but you must also include a physical address where the owner resides or does business. You are evidently lucky that California allows you to use a mail drop as a registration address.
