First Z06 Convertible Rolls off Line 2/22

The LSA and LS9 engines are very similar, with the fore metioned smaller blower. LS9's use titanium rods, and a few other things, while LSA's are pretty conventional with this. Not sure how much of an adantage Ti rods are, but know GM pays over $200 bucks for each of them. Also awhare of the The ZR1 weighing couple hundred lbs more than ZO6's, and a big reason, really not a fan of them.

I don't know why so many people here have their panties in a wad over the fact that some guy on the line said it was a Z06 convertible. He probably said it because to them that is what a 427 Corvette is. We need to quit worrying about little stuff like that. It's not like he's a salesman trying to sell the car, and I'm sure that once the cars start rolling off the line as full production cars everyone will start to "get" what the car actually is.
BTW, every year they start building cars that have changes for the new model year mixed in with the current year cars. Talon would do a better job of explaining the ins-and-outs of why they do it, but I guess the best explanation I have is that it is how they start testing to be sure the new changes come off the line correctly before they go full production of the new model year.

Very interesting that the people who build the darn car even call it a Z06 vert! I also agree with quicksilver that name is gonna stick.
IMO, it's a Z06 vert, it has the same front fenders and uses all of the same CF parts as the hardtop Z06, and it's the only other car in the C6 gen to utilize the 427.
Also the weight question is kinda funny, the 2006 Z06's were the lightest, since then GM has consistently ADDED weight to the Z06....so the weight of the Z06 is a less strict measurement of what defines the car......if weight is the major component then a 2006 Z06 is the only "true" Z06 lol.
But why does this bug people so badly when even the builders call it a Z06 vert??
I remember lot's of posts by Grand Sport (yea, here we go) owners claiming that their GS were "essentially a Z06 just with 70 less hp" "looks just like a Z06" "has all the suspension and brakes of the Z06"...........those comments were laughable as the GS has unique front fenders and the typical LS3.
The bottom line is for those clamoring for a open top Z06, you now have an option. The main defining features of the "Z06" are it's motor and use of CF single slit fenders....and the Z06 vert has it.

I think you're going to get a huge argument from Z06 owners. This drop top doesn't have a number of hidden components that a real Z06 has.

First, they announced it as "the first Z06 Convertible" to our group.
It was a pretty big thing that when it rolled thru the paint inspection light booth, that they parked it along side the line and others throughout the plant and museum folks with cameras came to photograph it.
Second, I may be wrong on the '13, because they didn't say that, but that's what it was called at Barrett Jackson.

I'd have no problem calling it a Z06 Vert. Then again I've noticed SOME people on this site are way too picky about what someone calls their car. Outside of Corvette forum.. 99.9% of the people you meet could give a damn whether you called it a 427 Vert or Z06 Vert, because they'd be much more interested in seeing you pop the hood and taking a look to see if its really 7 liters under that thing.

I don't think anyone is questioning what you saw and heard. The fact is, though, that the 2013 427 convertible is not a Z06. Since you and your fellow tourists were told that the car was a Z06, the only conclusion we can come to is that whoever told you that was giving you incorrect information.

I thought the "Collectors Edition" came with the Carbon Fiber parts, fenders, hood, etc. while the 427 conv. did not. That would make the "Collectors Edition" as close to a Z06 that can be made. (less the alum. frame) I hope they don't call it a Z06 convertible because that may add to the price.

I'm actually surprised they DIDN'T call it a Z06 convertible. If it walks like a duck, sounds like a duck, looks like a duck, I'd call it a duck.
Doesn't bother me at all if they did call it a Z06 vert. Doesn't chang a thing about the Z06 hardtop.

PS: Did GM remove the GS badges from these cars?
