I had the knocking caused by bad sway bar endlinks. During the troubleshooting I took it to my local Carmax to get some help with this & a slight steering wheel alignment problem. They told me that my recent header installation done by a local performance shop had misaligned the front Subframe during installation and that that would need to be resolved before they addressed either problem. I replaced the front endlinks myself tks to this forum & fixed that issue. I still have a slight steering wheel turn to the right when the car drives straight. Has anyone else run into a subframe alignment issue causing this ?
Be careful with this shop.
Their reply to you may not be accurate.
First what was removed to install headers?
Maybe the front aluminum cross member.
I do recall rear subframe threads, but not front. My recollection is that the frame asm has pins that only insert/ align one way. Then you tighten some bolts to spec.
If you could get a alignment machine print out showing your specs it may add more to a diagnosis.
Best bet - return to shop that did the headers and tell them what the other shop said and ask them to place your Vette on a lift and check the componets they removed to install your headers.
Caster, ride height, camber come to my mind more than the "subframe". Yet, one never knows without actually viewing the car.
