Five corvettes, 3 with sticks. The last one was an auto that I had for ten years but had to deal with traffic. Now retired and no more traffic so I went back to stick. If it wasn't for the stick I would not have traded my 2002 for a new C6 because the 2002 was fast enough. Just love to row the gears. Will get rid of the stupid skip shift soon.

Probably due to generational differences, different upbringings and priorities. My dad, a Second World-War pilot, taught me how to drive and shift a manual transmission, how to fly a plane (he had an instructor/commercial rating), how to shoot (he was a competitive marksman), how to play chess, baseball, and how to service/repair my cars when I was fourteen, and then I took Automotives in high school at sixteen. Being a great depression youngster, and a self-made man, my Dad he taught me work ethics and gave me the drive to succeeed. Looking back I was very fortunate. Today's youth, having grown-up in a different society with different priorities, never learned to shift for themselves. Too bad.

To the OP: stop defining age. When we don't define age, we stay "young". That's how people live to be 100.
There was a recent post by a member who wanted to sell all of his Corvettes because he was 71 and losing interest in his sports cars. How sad. At 91, I hope to be in line to buy the new C10!

I don't have a C6 quite yet, but I did try one out the other day. It was an '08 with the manual and everytime I went to engage the clutch, my shin would bump up against the lower panel of the dashboard. Very uncomfortable. I'm about 6'4" with some pretty long legs and I'm guessing that has something to do with it.
I'm wondering if any of you tall guys with the MN6 have this problem or was it maybe the way I had the seat adjusted.

M6 by the way! Can't really understand getting an automatic in a Corvette. I drive mine almost daily in very heavy traffic.

I'm only 70 and looking forward to being a senior someday.
A6 here for my DD and road trip car that also does dragstrip duty regularly.
I've owned over 60 cars and the manual/auto ratio is nearly even.
If my Vette were simply a playtoy that I casually drove just for fun, I'd probably bought a M6.
The transmission alone doesn't define the difference whether it's a sports car or not.
With all the creature comforts in today's "sports cars", they seem more like 2 passenger GT cars instead. After all, why have AC, stereo, CDs, PW, PDL, Power lumbar heated seats, MP3, GPS, and a multitude of other gadgets on a "real" sports car?

At 60 I believe that when I was growing up, and I use the term loosely, most people associated sports cars with a manual transmission, learning to double clutch was that mysterious art that was passed on through friends, I am glad I have a manual in my vette, would not trade it for anything. Nostalgia rules!

A great automatic can be jsut as fun and as fast as a manual, unfortunatley the automatic GM offers in the C6 just isn't up to that level yet.
Hopefully the tweaks GM added in 2012 and what they have planned for the C7 will cure that.
