Default 2005 ??

Yes I know this has been asked B4 but I need a to the point answer!!!
Is there anything WRONG with an 05???Is it just a 04 with a new body or is OK to buy if it is a low mileage car??Not much to buy here in Minnesota and a nice 05 in the color we like just popped up(under 20m miles). I know that C6s get better with every year but is the 05 flawed or just the starting point for the C6?CJ.

I bought a used 05 with just under 3K miles. Just turned 30K last fall and haven't had any issues. The only thing I had done, which was not due to any issue, was to have the top replaced since there was a recall on it. Good luck!

It's not unusual to have a few more problems with the 1st year of a generation change in Vettes. Many 2005 vette owners had no problems at all.

However, these were some of the frequent problems:
DSB, steering column lock, flying roof syndrome, loose harmonic balancer.

I had 2 05s and had none of those problems.

there are a few issues and the auto is A4 vs. A6 on '06+ but nothing that can't be fixed.

get it and enjoy!

Top recall was due to lamination issue. Had the potential to have part of the top fly off. Check to see if the vehicle you are considering has had the roof replaced.

One thing for sure, the '05 is NOT an '04 with a new body. Far more in common with a 2012 than a 2004.

Cars with vin#'s under 11039 are subject to the harmonic balancer bolt backing out. There was/is a tsb out on them.

Here ya go, to the point: Yes. No, maybe.

But I suspect you want more info than only 2 thumbs can provide.

That said, 05 was the first year for the C6. And there are potential issues unique to 05.

For instance, the 05 manual tranny cars had a steering column lock. You cannot bypass it like the C5's. So make sure it works smoothly. This "feature" was discontinued for 2006-and-newer C6's.

That IS for sure!
I've only had my '05 for a year and a half but so far it's been the best car I've ever owned even counting new one's I've had in the past. It had 41K on it and now has 45K. I don't get to drive it as much as I'd like since I work from home but when the wife and I go anywhere we take the vette whereas we used to take her Volvo. Mine had a few problems when it belonged to the first owner (gas door latch replaced, parking light socket replaced, roof recall) that all got fixed. I've had no problems at all.

That car is under the 11039 break for the crankbolt issue. I personally would walk away from this one. I had an 05 and though it was trouble free it was also in that affected vin range and it was always in the back of my mind that one day it could let loose. JMO

Mine is under that vin break too and the balancer has no wobble at all. Maybe it will happen in the future or maybe not. If it does I get it fixed and carry on.

My 2005 was number 12215, no engine bolt issues here. Had the left over fuel gage problem from the C5's, de-laminated roof, rear end noise and a few other nagging things, but Chevy fixed them all. The car is now with its second owner in Florida with 40,000 miles and they are loving it.

As with any used car purchase, buyer be ware!!eddie

Did Chevy fix the bolt problem??Like I said the Chevy service guy didn't see a recall for the top,,,was this just a blanket recall on all tops for 05?Was it on solid and clear tops or just one of them?
