Did Chevy fix the bolt problem??Like I said the Chevy service guy didn't see a recall for the top,,,was this just a blanket recall on all tops for 05?Was it on solid and clear tops or just one of them?
Recall was on solid tops not the clear ones. As far as the bolt goes they added a washer after that vin# to correct the problem.
Yes I know this has been asked B4 but I need a to the point answer!!!
Is there anything WRONG with an 05???Is it just a 04 with a new body or is OK to buy if it is a low mileage car??Not much to buy here in Minnesota and a nice 05 in the color we like just popped up(under 20m miles). I know that C6s get better with every year but is the 05 flawed or just the starting point for the C6?CJ.
The truth is you can buy a 2012 model and it could have problems. There could be an issue with the engine, transmission, paint, etc. These cars are not perfect. If you find a 2005 that you like I don't see a problem in getting it if the price it right.

No doubt that's true and I'm living proof of that but I would steer clear of a known problem or make sure it was fixed before I bought it.
Really??I don't see it.You know this is MN where a vette is hard to come by.I was just on corvettes for sale .com and a 06 with the same mileage is 5Gs more and most cars are private party sales.

EVERYONE KNOWS ALL 05'S SUCK! And ALL owners of 05's are terribly pissed for owning one. AVOID at all costs!
Bought my '05 in May, 2010, fully loaded Z51 A4, two tops, 10,508 miles on it, now have (as of yesterday) 17,994 miles, NO ISSUES at all, love the car! Had all the fluids changed and an alignment first thing, a couple of recalls done (roof, power steering column switch, one other, can't remember what) and that is it. As for the recalls, any dealer (or CarFax) can run your VIN and tell you if anything is outstanding. In my opinion, a great car.....Good Luck!
I see further down you mentioned price, I paid 30K for mine almost 2 years ago and that is here in NY, a high market area...

Asking and getting are two different things. This is the time of year the prices will bring a premium though. I have had several dealers tell me the Vette season for sales in MN goes till about June and then the sales fall off dramatically. I wouldn't let a couple of thousand dollars one way or the other stop me from getting a car that was exactly what I wanted though. Good luck
One thing for sure, the '05 is NOT an '04 with a new body. Far more in common with a 2012 than a 2004.
The '05's are somewhat of a hybrid with the C5 as far as electronics. One of the reasons they still had the column lock. Some of the BCM/ECM was carried over into the first year.
Also over time more of these column locks are failing primarily.
My early '05 recently did. About $600+ to fix. Looking at the internals of the device there is a cheap looking nylon gear that looks to be destined to failure.
Cars with vin#'s under 11039 are subject to the harmonic balancer bolt backing out. There was/is a tsb out on them.
And these continue to happen over time. There does not seem to be a time limit for it to happen. It's about $1000 complicated fix. I had mine done on extended warranty prophylactically.
Originally I remembered this to be about a 2% failure rate. But over time it's apparently significantly higher.

But not a recall so how did you get them to cover it under warranty since it is a TSB unless it did fail on you.
Obviously, there are carry-overs from one model (or generation) to the next but the C6 is significantly different than the C5. According to one GM enginner the C6 is about 80% different than the C5. The following link will highlight many of the differences between the C5 and C6.
As noted, improvements are made with each model year and when buying a used car it's especially important to check its service history. I always recommend you buy the newest model year possible but that said there's nothing 'wrong' with the 2005 C6. Problems can happen with any car. If you've read the forum long you'll notice certain problems some attribute more to the 2005 model year truly affect other model years as well. If it's an early VIN 2005 I'd make sure the crank-pulley bolt 'issue' has been remedied. Also, make sure the roof recall work has been done and avoid any car with a history of electrical battery/starting problems.
You never know with any car new or used but FWIW my (modified) 2005 has been a great car in all respects. Despite 'hard' use its been surprisingly trouble-free and reliable. Based on my experience and assuming everything else checks out OK I wouldn't hesitate to buy a 2005. Good luck.
