I loaned my truck to some friends and my C4 is getting new seat so it is in the shop, this means I had to drive the C6 to work. With a 30% chance of rain I had my fingers crossed but sure enough I hit the rain half way to work. Driving your C6 in the rain on Toyo R888 tires will wake you up at 5am for sure.
When I was going to pick up my Vette I was driving my Mustang GT with Mickey Thompson ET Street radials on the back. Hydroplaned right off the road at 60mph. Luckily if it rains and I'm in the Vette the max speed I can go while heading to work is 50mph.
I have driven my C6 in the rain quite a bit so far this year on factory Goodyears and, while I would prefer Michelins (had them on my last C6), I really don't find the experience that unnerving. The car seems to handle fine and, as long as I take it easy with the acceleration, I haven't slid a bit. I won't pretend there is no additional danger with the wide tires, especially on a road that holds water but, with due care the car is fine.

I never understand what all the fuss is about...
the car is fine in the rain, if you go with the flow of traffic you won't have any issues whatsoever... or if there is no traffic, pretend there is and go reasonably slow... funny how people just don't get that concept...
My guess it has nothing much to do with the fact the car will not handle the rain. Many like myself have other cars or vehicles we choose to drive in the rain. My Corvette is a toy. I simply have no need or want to drive it in the rain.
My vette is a daily driver, so i drive in the rain..., when it rains. No where near as bad as my 86 mustang 5.0 I had but still have to be ginger with the gas. Especially with the stock goodyear eagle F1's.
I think the car is well equiped for the rian because of the traction control and active handling. My issue is the R888 tires on the car, they are not suited for rain. My car has a 416ci, big cam, big stall, and agressive tune so on the upshifts it likes to break the tires lose. This morning I used my padel shifters to help control the car.
Driving with all-weather tires and a little common sense I don't see the problem with driving in the rain. If you drive your Corvette on the streets the aforementioned items are a necessity. If you drive in the rain with drag radials or 'slicks' you only have yourself to blame if you crash the car. I like tracking my car in the rain but I don't have a set of 'wet' tires. I still go out but when the car gets too uncontrollable I paddock-up. With slicks it's not worth crashing the car. Track or street you need the proper tires for the conditions.
Ive been driving a corvette for 8 years now.... first with my c5 now my c6. I bought my c5 with bald goodyears and drove it al the way home in some of the worst rain ive seen. From NC to NY. Some of you guys can be such babies. "Oh my god my car fishtailed a little now im having nightmares". If yoy cant drive the car in weather than you shouldnt own it. Stick to the 4x4's.
Anyone drive on the Kumho Ecsta XS Tires in the rain. Especially the 345 rears? How are those in the wet? Those are the tires I'm thinking of getting for a daily driven Corvette GS.
