I just bought a brand new gs convertible. I want to have a back up camera installed like I have in my other gm vehicles. can someone recommend a brand and an installer in Massachusetts ?
thanks
Do you have a GM NAV unit? If not, I would highly recommend to swap out your head unit to a nice Kenwood DVD/NAV - it does everything, from a backup camera, picture in picture NAV display while you have concert footage from your favorite band or artist inset in the display (or full display if you want), plus bluetooth, voice activation, iPod, etc, etc.
If you have the factory nav unit, there is a mod called the Lockpick that will allow a backup camera pic to be displayed on the screen. Unfortunately, it requires some rewiring of the nav unit that would void its warranty and is more complex than some owners want to do or want to have someone do to their car.
How about those of us that have neither no navigation and don't want to spend tons of $$$ on that headunit?
Well..... Don't know what to say. A backup camera doesn't work too well if you don't have either a built factory NAV or you don't want to buy an aftermarket head unit with a SCREEN to actually see what he camera is looking at.....

Actually... There are a bunch of options. Rear view mirror replacements which incorporate a small 2.5" display, screens which snap onto existing mirrors, or GPS units which tie into cameras.
Google/bing rear view mirror camera.

As far as the rearview mirror display, I have one in my GMC truck. It's small but almost, barely adequate. I also have a CTS-V & Buick LaCrosse with factory NAV & cameras. I much prefer the larger screens on the NAV units. Maybe its my 50 year old eyes catching up to me... It is something you get used to having around, especially nice when slowly backing out of the shop to make sure the dogs didn't wander behind the car. The old one (17 years old lab mix) can barely hear anymore to know the car is moving.
Someday I would like to look into the options for the ZR1.
