Default mouse magnet

this is a photo of my cabin filter before I changed it . Those little 4 legged
turkeys are pulling insulation out of my barn, packing it into the filter,
pooping in it and eating some of the paper. Time for war!!!

I forgot to use one of the Mouse Magic packets under the hood and this is what happened in about 5 months. Yuck!1

just wanted to know where the critters get into the filter area? is it from underneath? is there an area where I could put a wire screen?

anyway, got a new filter, put a mouse magic packet under it and we'll see what happens.

any suggestions would be appreciated.

I had a mouse eat about about softball size section out of my hoodliner.

Where do you get the mouse packets?

got them from Amazon. it is a little packet of spearmint and peppermint
combo- work pretty well in my situation- of course you have to use it
so when I forgot to use it this past winter this is what happened.

This doesn't do much for your cabin air

Peppermint oil works well. You can get it at most health food stores. Mice hate the smell of aromatic oils like peppermint and spearmint.

I've got a pack rat that keeps taking up residence inside the air-intake hose of my F-550 pick up. Plays havoc with air flow into the engine. Today I will be screening off the air intake at the grill with some heavy wire screen to keep the bugger out of the air intake system. Never seen the critter, just the mess he leaves and turds under the hood on flat surfaces.

Wow...that's disgusting. I think I'd get busy with mouse traps and whatever else you can think of.

We often deal with packrats here in southern Arizona (they're desert rodents...not like NYC sewer rats). Years ago my parents RV caught fire because of packrats nesting in the engine compartment and chewing on things. Packrats are considerably larger than mice but still get in small spaces. Besides setting capture traps and putting mothballs under the hood my folks would often leave the hood-up and place a bright light shining on the engine. The packrats like dark, cave like places. They don't like open, brightly lit places. Maybe leaving the hood up and shining a light would help. Good luck.

I've got a better idea. I agree with Wayne O. Just put several (3-4) mousetraps around the corners of the wall in your garage. Chances are that is where there are getting into your car from. It might also help to seal up any cracks in the walls of your garage, too. And around the bottom of the door. You'll be amazed at how many mice you can catch in your garage until you do. Cheese or a kernel of corn will work as bait, even after they dry out for weeks, mice will still get them. You'd better hurry. You'll be upset if they get inside and chew up the carpet, wiring under the dash, seats or the leather on the steering wheel. Ouch!!

And another thing: They're not always mice. I had a problem with shrews. They can get through about a 1/2" hole or crack. They're also strong enough to drag an ear of corn across the floor of your garage. But they'll hit a mouse trap too. So, you'd better get busy. Spearmint will just keep them out of your car. But they'll find another place to go and chew up if you don't. They could chew on the wiring in your house and cause a fire. They love the pink insulation in the walls, gloves, rags and anything else they can find to keep warm. I keep mouse traps set- 24/7. Even if I don't have mice. Eventually, one will get in and get caught. Good luck.

I use bars of Irish Spring soap, and dryer sheets.

I get mice in our garage too, but only if we leave the door open during the winter (sometimes we forget.)

But ever since I had issues with my garden tractor wiring getting all chewed up, I now keep at least 4 of those plastic spring loaded traps loaded with PB in the garage. I check them every day. This winter we only had one mouse, and it was when, of course, my wife came home from work, and the door was open until we went to bed.

If they chew wiring, you'll be hosed. Kill the suckers. And just because you put a gob of PB on the trap, check them every couple weeks for PB... I think bugs eat the stuff off lol..

For winter storage moth ***** seem to work fine on the garage floor under the car.

We didn't have any luck with the Mouse Magic, but had good luck with a combination of:

Two Tupperware containers with small holes in the lids, half full of moth ***** and placed under the engine & trunk of each car. Replace the moth ***** every 3 months. Garage smells like grandma's attic.

Three glue traps spaced around the garage.

4 "box" traps that tip and trap the mouse, spaced around the garage.

Using Havahart traps and air rifle to exterminate chimpunks from around the property.

This might help keeping them out of your car. But they can still get up in the walls, cabinets and shelves. Then one day you will find holes chewed in your shop towels, gloves or rags. (I had one chew the cork handle off of the Shakespere fishing rod that I bought back in the 60s. THAT pi$$ed me off!!) Or they could bore into your house, have babies and you'll really have a mess. Better get out the traps........

Do you shoot them after you've trapped them?
