Probably because it doesn't pay **** to actually do it the right way. Could you support yourself or family doing a 150-250 wax job that takes 8+hrs to do the right way? I sure as **** couldn't. Not to mention most people are happy with just your pull in and out quick car wash.
If someone's charging 150 for an 8 hour detail they aren't charging enough or don't know what they're doing.
I don't have time for much detailing now due to my full time job and family business (was just doing it on weekends), but when I was doing 2 cars a month it was between $35-$40 an hour for details including correction work, which is really the only thing worth paying for (anyone can wash, clay and wax a car).
This is what's great about this forum. Someone who takes the time to educate someone without the harangue of preaching or lecturing--well done Wolf Dog.
To be honest, I didn't know what a clay bar was until a year or so ago!! I was looking at this site and then did some research. I used to work at two different car washes for years through high school and college. We'd get vans and cheap cars. We'd do the easy stuff like wash then wax. There wasn't even a clay bar to be seen.
