I'm possing a sequel to the Vert vrs. Coupe thread. How many owners of the coupe have nearly or actually dropped their removable top? To me it's a pita .Btw I fell into the almost category.
When I had my C4 vert I was looking for Coupe to use for track days. But instead I stumbled on a 09 Vert with the electric top. There was no way my wife was either going to be able to remove the top or install it by herself without breaking it. So I sold the C4 vert.
Used to be with the C4 vert that the top would stay down 6 months out of the year (November to April) and stay up for the other months during the Inferno season here in Florida. The electric top makes it so much easier.
If you haven't already, you should watch the video to show how to remove and store the top. I tried it for the first time yesterday, and it was pretty easy.
If you like the top down, convertible is the way to go... I feel way more comfortable to help my son help me with removing the roof panel because even though it is one person job, the possibility of dropping the top somehow does not appeal to me and it is fairly easy to mess up the front trim piece. Afterwards, the effing shower curtain flaps around like there is no tomorrow. Convertible has none of these issues, I miss my C5 on this account but I do not miss the very limited visibility behind me...

Are you kidding me? You need a 2nd person to help you remove the top safely? It cant be more than 10-15lbs! Unless you are 5'4" or something, I cant imagine it not being a breeze.
Funny story...I was test driving Vette coupes vs verts and my first coupe test drive was a brand new '07. I wanted to drive it with and without the top so I asked the dealer if it was hard to remove/stow. He said, "NO PROBLEM!" Then he proceeded to start to remove it and dropped it down into the interior, deeply gouging the console. Needless to say, I was very happy it was him and not me.
Ultimately, I bought a vert and have never been sorry.

I am not 5'4", as already stated, the top is awkward to manouver and no, I do not need another person, I just feel more comfortable this way because shiit does happen. Breeze is the real convertible top because nothing can fall.
The most important point to doing this is to do it with the door open. It lets you get in closer and makes this process a lot easier. I haven't had any problems and I'm 65 years old.
Drooped mine on the center console one time after (stupidly) removing it in the middle of a summer day. No damage to the roof, but it ripped a gouge in the console lid. Costly error.
There will be a certain number of people who can screw up just about anything. Such is the human condition.
I have never had any problems removing or replacing the transparent top. It is very light. There are only two things to be careful of: Wind and heat. Don't try to remove or replace it on a gusty day, it will want to sail away. And of course, after hours in the sun, it will be hot to the touch.
It is a very well-designed and engineered targa top, which is why several on this forum have brought up bad memories of the C4 top. Sun and wind, you can't do much about, other than honor nature.
