Default New Engine

A few weeks ago I'm driving 25 or 30 mph and the "low oil pressure" alarm goes off. I pull over and call for a tow, but the main bearing is already spun. Good news is I lucked out since the 5year, 100k mile powertrain warranty runs out at the end of June. So, it's all good since that saves me about $10k, but I find it really unusual to lose an oil pump. The harmnic balacer has woobled out twice, once actually loosening the bolt. I'm wondeing if a woobly balancer shaking the crank could be the culprit. In any case I can't believe the balancer problem has been going on as long as it has. This is super easy and inexpensive to fix (putting a quality balancer on the engine to begin with), but really critical and expensive to repair.

This same thing HAPPENED TO ME (oil pump stuck open and 5 psi showing up on DIC)... I had to get the entire lower portion of my engine rebuilt... I have an 05 with 114,000 miles. Crankshaft was SHOT!

LS3 = 10k?

Good thing you have insurance. However, you can build a lot of engine for 10k.

I am curious if this engine that spun a bearing was one of those special fancy schmancy "Hand Built" engines, or just the regular ol' run-of-the-mill "Robot Built" engine like I have in my GS.

I actually saw where GM was advertising a complete LS3 for $9K, so, yeah, that's pretty close. That's about $2-3K more than the LS2. Interesting...

Since he only has a couple of months before his 5 year warranty runs out one can safely deduce that it was not a hand built GS engine.

For 9k or whatever it is I would get that 427 with 580hp (free pcm tune but I would have it dyno tuned there after) and a 2 year warranty. Yes, you would need some other upgrades.

He's got a LS2. Crate LS3 is 6400. LS2 rebuilt shortblock is probably a bit cheaper.

It's an LS2, 2007, 6.0L. The $10k is a ballpark figure I came up with a $6k qoute on a new engine (can't find rebuilt ones),$1k shipping, and $2k-$3K for the install.
