Default Adding 2009+ features to 2007 C6 - for bluetooth capabilities

After reviewing many posts - there are limited options for enabling bluetooth capabilities in a 2007 C6

1) Add in a net new component ( like Parrot - others )

Typically light / no integration into existing infrastructure - using vette's microphone (upgraded to 2010+ - a good microphone) or speakers

No hands free activation (no steering wheel options in stock 2007 )

2) Add in a BlueStar add-on component

Better integration into existing infrastructure - using vette's microphone (upgraded to 2010+ - a good microphone) & speakers

Still no any hands free activation (no steering wheel options in stock 2007)

Have to use phone or rearview mirror to answer calls - appears to be a huge disadvantage

3) Replace entire NAV system

Some integration into existing infrastructure - using vette's speakers

Typically does NOT use vette's microphone (upgraded to 2010+ - a good microphone)

Still no any hands free activation (no steering wheel options in stock 2007)

Question - has anyone attempted to get the 2009+ steering wheel controls into a 2007?

Are there any other alternative to the hands free controls?

Appreciate the quick response - a few more detailed questions:

Did you have to install a separate microphone for the new unit - or was it integrated into the harness to utilize the Vette's microphone?

*** Answered my own question - after reviewing the Pioneer documentation - must use external microphone

How do you answer an incoming call?

** With 2007 Vette - would have to answer via touching phone - no other interface available

This last item - is the main point of frustration - with my 2007. No ability to have a hands free operation for answering/ending a call - in a controlled manner while driving ...

I installed a 2-din aftermarket. You need to make sure you also buy the GM adapter (can't think what it's called, but it enables the after market to talk to the computer).

Metra GMOS-100 perhaps? I did not use that myself but perhaps I should have.

I do agree to ditch the Blose and go aftermarket. I went with Kenwood.

with both the pioneer i installed and Kenwood units yes there is a separate antena, mine is below the dash out of view for the most part, and to answer the incoming call you touch the button on the screen, esier and safer than going for a small button on the phone!!

Thanks for the information.

Has any tried to install a 2009+ steering &/or bluetooth controls ( left side of steering wheel ) into an 2005-2008 - with any success?

Read thru some posts where this was discussed - yet - no mention of results.

Thanks...

I've installed the entire 2009 column into my 2006, I also added the nav radio from a 2007, the audio controls work and the bluetooth buttons on the wheel light up, so I'm assuming if I had a nav radio from an 09+ then it may work, I too would like to keep the steering wheel functions, I know the bose blose but I want to keep this car mostly stock for now.

After the holidays I may attempt to get a later model nav radio and finish the bluetooth function, its electronics and I'm sure with the right parts it can be added

I've popped a bluestar in the vette for now, works good, just wish it would play music via Bluetooth from my phone

Even if you change out the steering wheel and factory NAV the stock setup will not work. You will have to change out the Onstar module as that is where the BT module is located, the Onstar module is coded to each car and Onstar will no longer change them over to another car and GM will not sell you the module you need for your car.

Aftermarket is the only way to go for now, Chris White used to be able to fix the Onstar modules, but GM caught onto what he was doing and shut down his backdoor approach I believe.

That not only sucks, but is retarded on both GM an onstars part, so what do you do if the crappy onstar module needs to be replaced? So buying a used Bluetooth module is useless

If you module dies they replace it with the same module that came in the car with no option to upgrade the module.

Been awhile since I read what Chris was doing, but my understanding was that since he was a programmer for GM he knew how to fix the programming in the module and then it would work. Once GM or OnStar found out they blocked his backdoor trick. I never paid anymore attention to it after I sold my G8 GXP since it already had the BT module in it.

That's a nice replacement over the OEM I'm interested in adding that to my 2007 Coupe. Could you tell me the model # of that radio and if you needed any additional parts? Also, How did you get the Corvette Logo to appear on the screen?

I did both my boot screen and my background screen and I am very pleased with the results.
