Default Tire pressure sensor question

Bought some new chrome wheels and the tire shop wants $566 to change out the wheels including sensors. The tire pressure sensors are $100 per wheel! I have a 2008 Vette. Is it necessary to change the sensors at this point?

I say no. You have a few more years of life out your original sensors.
BTW, Discount Tire charges $70 ea. for the sensors and $20 per wheel to mount and balance.

Are you going to keep your old set of OE wheels/tires/sensors?

Or are they taking the tires off your old wheels to put them on your new wheels?

If you're not keeping your old wheels/tires/sensors for a second set, then just swap your old sensors into your new wheels.

Tire pressure sensors have a "design life" of 10 years, so yours should be good for a number of years.

If you do use your old sensors, have the tire shop put them back on the same corner of the car they're on now. If they get mixed up they'll still work, but the DIC info about pressures won't correspond to the actual location, i.e., if the sensor that was originally on the right front gets mounted on the left rear, when the DIC says "Right Front 20psi" it will really be talking about the left rear.

If you get a new set of sensors you can get them from a forum vendor for about $250 for a set of 4.

The 2005-2009 C6 uses a gray color sensor, GM Part# 25758220.

They're ripping you off big time! My home Internet is down or I'd check the price but a TPS used to cost around $50. You should be paying maybe $25 per wheel to change tires and balance the wheel. Shop around! Hell, I change out track tires all the time and my local Discount Tire doesn't charge me anything. Well, once a manager did charge me $10 per wheel. Check with Discount Tire and start building a relationship with them....they'll treat you right.
