I will be changing front tires again, 22000 miles on fronts, Goodyear Eagle GS-2 all around. Thinking of changing to Firestone Wideoval's. Is it okay to run different brands on front than back?
Any active handling problems?
As long as they are the same size, active handling won't know the difference. While you can run different tires front to rear, this can at time cause handling imbalances. If you don't track the car, or drive it spiritedly near it's limits you won't notice a thing.
However if you do any of these activities, you might find that handling at the limit isn't as linear or as predictable as with a matched set.
As long as you're using EMT tires all-around just changing brand shouldn't IMO cause any adverse affects. I wouldn't mix runflat with non-runflat tires though.
Some people have reported no problems with different brands F/R, others have reported sudden oversteer or understeer at the limits like in an emergency maneuver.
The only way to know for sure is to do some testing in a really big parking lot, and even then the results may change depending rain or temperature.
