Maybe his doesn't work? When my battery died, that lever didn't open the door for me.

That's the point of the thing. It's a mechanical backup.

Lucky you weren't in a vert with the top up. You would have had one hell of a time crawling out of that. Guess you could have cut the top or broken a window.

Knowing about the release lever could save your life. Anyone that gets into my car is told about that lever. Suppose you got caught in a flood and the battery dies? We would be reading about some poor Corvette owner on these boards and it would not be funny.

Yes, of course, we should not be so mirthful.

Anyway . . . I think AARP or AAA, or some organization was offering hammers specifically designed to break windows, from the inside, of course. In case of rollover, or flood, or a collision which jams the doors. If the windows don't go down, break out that hammer, and break out the window.

Don't forget about your passenger.

I have predicted since the C6 came out and we started getting this same complaint, that one day someone will cook and die in their car. Luckily so far I've been proven wrong.

My M.O., for sure. I'd be vacuuming the glass out of the carpet, and see the handle. WTF??

If you bought the car new, go slap your salesman silly right now!!!!! That is the first thing my salesman told me about when I took delivery.

For that matter if you bought it used from a dealer you need to go slap your salesman.

Over the years I've seen a lot of these same threads here. I understand not everybody buys these brand new, but if so, the sales people are supposed to go over the car in detail, including these steps as part of the delivery process.

Are dealers simply not doing this?

This is only one of the reasons that I carry a brick in my glovebox. That window isn't going to stop me!

You got it! It's the answer for 99% of the questions on here.

Now obviously he needs to read it before this ever happens. It should be read whenever you get a new car you're not very familiar with.

I'm sure if he reads it, he will find out other interesting facts he should already know.

No, most others were either too kind to point out the obvious, too dumbfounded at the lack of knowledge, or just didn't care enough to respond.

He didn't know it was there.
Maybe yours somehow came disconnected inside the door jamb. Does the other side work?

Sadly, there are some dealers that don't know either.

I am still amazed at these posts....

ok, lets just say you are the guy or gal who never reads the instructions but didn't just once while vacuuming the car you wonder WTF that lever was for?

BTW, there is also a door release in the hatch as well as one for the fuel door....IIRC..I am positive about the fuel door but my Z isn't here at the moment to confirm the door release
