I know our cars have their share of strange electrical problems. I though I ran into something really crazy until I figured it out.
This morning I went into my garage and what did I see...... the four way flashers blinking on my C6. I thought the electric gremlin had finally hit my car. What the heck could have done this? Where should I look first? What should I do first?
My first step was to see if the four way button would turn my flashers off. It did. Phew..... at least no short circuited wiring harness.
Next was a general look see. So what did I see? I saw my Garmin portable GPS sitting on the floor of my car. The Garmin is mounted on a small bean bag mount on the center of the dashboard. The bean bag was still there, but the suction cup must have let go. Looks like the Garmin hit the four way button on its way to the floor.
Problem solved......... except for the deeply discharged battery. Good thing this did not happen while I was on a trip and parked overnight at a motel.
I tried a cup holder mount for my Garmin. Did not like it as it was too low and out of my line of sight.
I also must agree that a Garmin based factory NAV would be a great idea. I have one in my 2012 Chrysler 300. The Chrysler factory Nav cost less than half of what the system sold for in my C6 and from most accounts is much better and is certainly more intuitive.
The Chrysler system has an 8.4 screen in the center stack and a smaller EVIC screen (like our DIC) between the speedo and tach. Info in the EVIC constantly changes and will include lane instructions when approaching turns. So you have a map in the center stack AND a lane picture in the EVIC.
