So I realize that I am replying to an old thread, but I just purchased my first Vette and am so excited about it. In this post I see people saying that if you want real power you need to go with the Z06. I have a std 2006 C6 with the LS2 and its got enough power to spin the wheels pretty much at will in whatever gear.
So I guess I have a question to the group, Does a Z06 really accelerate faster? I mean how can it keep glued to the ground without just spinning, cause that's a challenge in my base LS2. And I would imagine it would be the same even if I had the wider tires of a Z06. It hard to say there is too much power, but wow.
Having power under the hood is fine but I hope you want to do more with your Corvette than merely spinning the tires. From my experience the Corvette hooks-up fairly well. Yes, you can light 'em up but it takes a little effort. I don't know how you use your car...whether it's a daily driver or whether you'll ever use the car competitively (at the drag strip, a parking lot autocross event or on a road course). My passion is road course racing. I highly recommend you take your car to an HPDE or other road course event (like SCCA or NASA) and begin to enjoy the full capabilities of your car (and your driving skill). There's much more available to the Corvette owner than spinning the tires. BTW, with some modifications you'll find your Corvette handles every bit as well as your 911 did. Enjoy your Corvette's performance....all of it!
At 47 years old, I'm feeling a strong desire to finally purchase a seriously powerful car. I have a 911 which I love, but Porsche's are more about handling than acceleration. I'm not sure why but I want to be able to spin the tires at will. (Is this a mid-life crisis?) So my question is this: Will I be satisfied with a GS manual, or do I need to be looking at a Z06? Keep in mind I live at an altitude of 5000 feet above sea level, so I lose a fair amount of performance, estimated at about 3% per 1000 ft, or about 15% total. Please forgive my undignified first post.
Sounds like Colorado. A GS should do the trick but as others have mentioned Z06 if you can afford it. 427 is hard to pass up. I had normally asperated 2006 cpe A6 with a procharger, straight line it would run or slighly pull away from a Z06. Just not handle the curves as one. ZR1, you have the power, scarey power at that. Go test drive, that will help make your decision easier. Enjoy whatever you choose.
