I decided to have six different paint contractors come to home and give me a bid to paint my house.
I parked my Vette in the driveway(along) on the first three contractors.
Bids were $2500, $3100 and $2650

Parked Vette in the garage and received the following last three bids.
$900, $1200 and $1300

What do you think?

How does one place end up bidding four times the price of another?
Surely there would be a difference in amount or quality of work.

Some guys were just arguing over this in another thread, saying that business owners or service providers like docs/dentists shouldn't have fancy cars outside their offices because it gives off the impression that they charge too much.

I guess we can chalk it all up to the "Corvette tax"

We assume you told all 6 contractors the same info for painting the house. Is it worth calling the 3 high ones to come back and rebid since they were way out of the ballpark? With the car in the garage of course.

Oh ya, get what you can attitude.

Wife is always telling be to keep the garage closed when getting bids.

Now I mention that I am retired and on limited income, while keeping the Vette concealed.

Bids are much more reasonable.

Also mention that you want less work performed and what might it cost to do extra work. Usually this gets a good bid too. The contractor wants more work and will take it for less if he thinks he can get you to accept his bid for the original work.

Oh ya and get it it writing and pay no more than half when half the job is done with the balance on completion.

Have found similar experiences with landscapers and tree trimmers here in Florida. Quotes in an upscale neighborhood are much higher than similar work in another area of town.

I do not think the Corvette being in the driveway for all to see had a thing to do with it. It certainly had something to do with the different contractors you called for the estimate.
I do not know any people that think you are rich because you drive a Corvette. I would think in your case the house would speak more to your finances than your car.
Bottom line for me car had nothing to do with it.

Keep my ZCar garaged & outa sight whenever getting bids from contractors. Just makes sense, these days.
