Default caliper paint kit...

? for those that have done it:

got the good one from one of the forum vendors. notice it says drying time is 2 hrs but dont drive the car for 24hrs for complete set up.

im doing it right around the corner from my house since i dont have a lift.. im thinking it wont hurt to let it dry for 2+ hrs, then just creep around the corner and garage it till the next day.... am I correct?

Idk my car likes to shoot out brake dust if I even consider touching the brake pedal LOL j/p

You should be fine. I painted the calipers on my old Silverado one morning and probably about 3 to 4 hours later had to drive it. Never had any issues with it.

Also what brand caliper paint did you get? I just painted mine last week with the G2 Caliper kit. The reason I ask is because I know it says let it cure for 2 hrs but don't drive the vehicle for 24 hrs. My girlfriend used the same kit on her Challenger and drove it to her house about 1.5 miles away. This was maybe 3 hours after she applied it. That was about 6 months ago and she hasn't had any ill effects by driving down the road.

I'd suspect the paint is still tacky, and would be worried about road dust. My paint certainly was (in some places) after 2 hours.

You've probably seen this but just in case. The foam brushes work good, I helped a friend do it and they turned out great and still look good 3 years later.

Drying time is the secret the paint takes at lest 24 hrs to get hard. When you move into the garage do iy slowly and you will be good.
Imhadvto redo mine because I drove it to soon.

if you are literally around the corner and if you are using the G2 system, then you will be fine as long as you take it easy - what colour are you doing?

Default Self etching primer

Wolfdog:

I used a self etching primer prior to applying the caliper paint. Three plus years later and they look like the day I painted them. Just a suggestion.

You probably already know this but if you put VASELINE over the CORVETTE letters then paint the calipers all you have to do wipe off the letters then you have perfect lettering.

Hey Wolf,

I used the G2 kit. I found the brush way to stiff, so I used a softer brush and it came out great. Drove mine about 4 hours after for about 5 miles and all was well. Good luck.

I'm actually looking to paint mine as well but I'm unsure which kit would be my best choice. I have come across this kit ans was wondering if anyone has used it before and if so what are your thoughts?? I want to paint my calibers silver with black lettering any suggestions?

I am not familiar with this kit so please educate me. Do you leave the calipers on an paint them or are you removing them? I saw another thread where a guy left the calipers on and painted them. I was kind of surprised by that but certainly appealing to a guy like me who has zero mechanical ability.

As to the lettering, the vaseline and chapstick might work fine, but you could sand them down or use a Dremel tool. On mine I painted the letters black (you might want to paint them yellow or red) for which I used a small paintbrush, working slowly and wearing a magnifying headset ...

I used the G2 kit. I took both my calipers and brackets off and painted them both. I repainted the letters and did not put everything back together until 24 hrs later.
Paint your rotors while you have it apart and you will not have anymore rust issues.

Duplicolor instructs us to apply additional coats within 1 hour. It goes on to say that if we wait longer than an hour, we have to wait a week for the paint to cure before applying a second coat.

I'm sure I waited longer than an hour in-between coats. Actually added a final coat the next morning...

If the paint chips off, I guess I'll know why...
