Lets say you have a car purchased used that was tuned by what was known as a reputable tuner. For whatever reason said tuner is no longer in business, not in the same location, or whatever other reason one can think of and can't be found. You have no access to prior owners either. How does one find out what kind of tune is in there? Can it be downloaded to say something like a predator or something and reloaded?? I'm curious to know if it's something that can never be touched if not by the same tuner or what??Thanks. No idea if it's an HP job or whatever other tune is available. How Can something like that be determined?
So it in fact can be "sorted out"by another tuner although with limited info?Nothing wrong with the car at all and it runs strong, but I like to know what options are out there.
I'm no tuning expert but unless the tune was locked it should be accessible. Although a friend of mine had a locked tune with the C5.R racing engine in his C6, from what I know most tuners/performance shops do not lock their tunes. There are tuners and there are tuners. Whether you're building an engine or tuning I suggest you go for a balance of performance and reliability.

The original tuner should not have locked the tune. That is not cool, and not professional! If you bring it to a reputable tuner in your area he will be able to download it, and view the parameters that most tuners modify. He will be a be able to tell what was done, and make recomendations/changes with your input on what you want to accomplish.
This should cost in the $200-$500 dollar range depending on whether a dyno tune, and/or a steet tune is involved.
Come on by and I'll tell you anything you need to know.....
