I just drove my new to me 2011 Grand Sport on the Bloomington Gold Tour last night. My wheels look like they were through a brake dust storm! I am changing out the rims next week and this ain't gonna workee. My last c-6 had Hawk pads on it from the previous owner. I don't know which ones they were. They didn't dust at all. I want to order some new pads and change them when I have the wheels swapped out.
Street driving, no tracking, want good braking, and low to no dust.
Local speed shop installed Centrix (sp?) on my 11 GS last month. They are fantastic!!! No more dust to speak of! I drive the car a whole week and have less dust then I did driving it for 10 minutes before. I'm very happy with ceramics!
I just replaced the pads on my '12 GS after 800 miles, two days of daily driving and the front wheels were brown. I used the Hawk ceramic padlets (partstaxi was a cheapest I found) and after a week of driving the wheels still look fine. There is some dust but its gray and not rust-brown, no squeals yet either.
A worthwhile thing to do for a driver, now the wheels wont dictate when I wash the car.
Any difference between the pad-lets, and the one piece pads?
Hi Kev,
Yes, IMHO, this is a difference - the instant I tried out my new Carbo-Tech 1521 one piece ceramics, the stopping power was very noticeable. I'm assuming that because you've got a bit more surface area working with the rotor that it should. But I could feel it.
Did your wheels look like mine when I got home from Bowling Green when I still had on the stock pads??
Hawk, Posi Quiets and Carbotech....not many other options.
Performance Friction is a major maker of brake pads. I used to use the somewhat more aggressive Performance Friction C5 Z-Compound pads with good results.

Yup, that was pretty much how they looked this AM. So I guess I'm looking for one piece ceramic pads.
Thanks for chiming in Brad, I remember when you were having yours installed. Now I know why!
I'll be switching to ceramics eventually probably after my big trip to the Philippines in Sept. Chrome wheels are a real pain because you notice it real quick. 10-20 miles for me.
AC Delco Ceramics.. That's the ticket. I put them on for street pads after my last HPDE and I've got ZERO brake dust since (about 300 miles).. They stop great on the street and they are dead quite with NO dust... ($56 for all four on popular shopping site that is named after a river)... Seriously!.. don't even think about more expensive A/M pads for the street..
Thanks for all of the input, I ordered a set of one piece Hawk Ceramic pads front and rear. I will install while my tires are being swapped onto the new wheels.....Come on UPS guy! Christmas in June!
The brake dust on my 11 GS was absloutely ridiculous. I got a set of Hawk ceramics from Forum vendor KNS Brakes for I think $230 shipped which I found to be a very competitive price compared to everyone else. The dust is now minimal and stopping power is fine for street driving which is all I need.

Where did you get them and what kind of deal did you get? You will be happy with the Hawk ceramics.

Good advice, but I'm still trying to determine whether to go with the AC Delco Ceramics or put the OEM Z51 pads back on my car. Reality is I stick pretty close to the posted speed limits on public streets.. and would have no problem with ceramic pads for 95% of the driving I do with the car. I do plan to attend atelast 1, maybe 2 track events a year with this car.. but could always swap the pads just for that event, just like what you did. Common sense would say get the ceramics now for street driving.. and get something better for the track. Glad to hear someone with both track & street experience, like yourself.. can vouch for the ceramics ability to stop well enough on the street.
I realize forum sponsors need to make their money.. so I'll refrain from discussing exact prices or naming other sites. But for the price you claim to have paid, is not available on that "other site". I've looked at both the Ceramics & Z51 pads on that site.. and both are significantly more expensive. In fact, forum sponsors are pretty competitive with their pricing.. with a fairly small difference in pricing. Im guessing you bought a slightly different pad, perhap ones that fits & still gets the job done.. but isnt the exact same parts number as what is listed for the C6.
